from Dodworth - through Stainborough bottom - turned left - 2 miles on turned right before Birdwell and dropped down over the M1.
Road then becomes part single carriageway.
Half way up stonking big BMW comes down - we meet at a narrow part.
In these situations I thought it was the car coming down that should reverse to a passing place rather than the car coming up and seeing as we were equidistant from a passing place I expected BMW to do the honourable thing.
But he didn't and I ended up having to reverse.
Was the t**t driving the BMW in the wrong?

the highway code says the uphill driver should be allowed right of way.

I'd have pulled left onto the pavement slowing him to pass. The downhill driver can't do that

Edit: unless you mean the bit with no pavement but a steep slope in which case it depends where abouts you both are. One of you will have had a shorter reverse than the other, that's how I always judge it

Then there's no laws or anything governing it but the highway code says you should (out of courtesy) let the one going uphill pass.
To be honest he knew you were coming anyway, must have seen you from his raised viewpoint

I think for the sake of your mental health is probably not worth getting that wound up that you had to post about it on a message board hours later

i despair at some drivers, heading to sheff this morning and virtually no traffic
i've a 2.2 civic and it can shift if i want it to, if you're not familiar with 1, if the headlights seen behind are below the rear spoiler they are way too close, so i usually plod on 2 or 3 mph below the limit until they back off, but this pillock decided to overtake me on a bend heading up towards the marquis, car coming down had to slam anchors on!
he gained say 50 feet as a car pulled out in front just after the marquis junction, he whizzed past him bottom of the hill where that speed clock is, 50+ approaching another tight bend!

I Went to Pilley this afternoon
To see the sights before the moon
Climbed o'r the Eastern Pennine Peaks
In roast beef coat and haggis breeks
While sunlight warmed my forearms bare
Before the nip had filled the air
But it all left me all too soon
