Hello, I signed up early for Day Dream Believers and duly took delivery of the DVD ages ago. It sat in its celophane wrapper for months until tonight..... Wow. Really do not know who to thank for the production. Spent most of the evening in floods of happy tears remembering our greatest ever season (so far). Brilliant effort and to anyone who has not seen this yet - gerrit bought.... it really is a great record of our finest achievement (again, so far). Thanks again to Dyson et al... brilliant!
Just had to wait until the right time. And weirdly, tonight was the night. Awesome.... and a DVD that will stay in my collection FOR LIFE!
Without a doubt the most questionable, potentially corrupt, performance from a referee that I have ever witnessed.
I will never be convinced otherwise. I've seen countless poor performances from referees over the years but that was beyond anything I have ever seen and can't be explained away as a bad day at the office.
Completely lost it didn't he.? It was significant that he never reffed another game in the Premiership after that completely abject display. I know that one of our supporters wrote to the FA and because at least two of the dismissals were for trivial offences at best, asked if consideration could be given to the game being replayed with a competent team of officials. Predictably, he never had the courtesy of a reply. I know a number of our fans also felt really aggrieved and harboured a feeling that the FA and certain match officials were biased against us and didn't want us in the Premiership. They were labelled as paranoid, but because of some of the things that occurred during that particular season, there were times when you could really empathise with them.
He completely lost the plot and not only ruined the game but ended our chances of staying up. Although we weren't relegated mathematically that day I'm convinced that the damage his performance did to us all but relegated us. I still remember a fan outside the ground shouting into a camera that it was all directed by the PL and FA and was all about keeping Spurs and Everton in the league. Willard was an utter disgrace that day.
Hard to believe after his performance on that day, but he did actually continue refereeing in the Premier League (and at UEFA level) for another season, his last PL appointment was in May 1999. The gamesmanship and "playing the referee" by the established PL clubs was one of the biggest frustrations for me. I've said it before, but it was more fun getting to the PL than being there.
I enjoyed Neil Redfearn's take on it, Barnsley players were "you" and first name terms for the other team. I think i said when I first watched DDB that I'd forgotten just how angry I was at the time and watching it the anger all came back again!
Thanks for reminding me. OP . Was party to the crowdfunding but didn't get the DVD. (How could I forget. ) Looking forward to seeing it. Just ordered online.
