I thought that was the case but like you say it's unpolicable (not a word but I don't care) By the way I hope your neighbours know why you turn your computer on and close your blinds during daylight hours every other day.
Exactly. Clubs are not just giving training plans, players are expected to report in with their progress every day, along with proof of the exercise. I’ve only been saying this for 4 weeks on here and being told I was wrong
It's just the one back window in the spare room. Sun is blinding at 6:50pm and the last thing I need is more sun on my face right now!
I think people's argument there was more thst even if they were just handed a training plan and not checked up on then any athlete who actually cares about himself and his career would do his best to stick to it. Anyone who doesn't do that deserves to lose their pampered lifestyle anyway
Not sure Jay but I don’t think it was about how wealthy. owners are but about the mega bucks they make out of the game. Spending more on players wages than income. Transfer deficits and sorts. So the top clubs were always going to get more flack. By not being either self sustainable or making massive profits. (Stupid or greedy) let’s hope things change for the better after this. Lots of smaller clubs should definitely not be on the list of shame. Furlough or bust. Ps Re our club I think we are fully aware that the board are not in for losing money. ( whether they have invested or pillaged. Depends on which side of the fence we sit. As Fans in general) But I do believe in the long run they are looking for a return on their investment.
I bit random but I really like how you have a few shirts in the background. Changes it from a bloke in his bedroom to a Barnsley man doing an interview. And as others have said I think you're doing a fantastic job and definetly improving each time and ironing out all those teething problems. By the time this lockdown ends you'll be presenting the transfer deadline day for sky sports
You should see all the clothes hidden on the floor behind the bed that came out of those wardrobes before the Hecky interview started ................... and haven't moved since!
But surely it makes more sense for the clubs to have that as a last resort? Especially if it does indeed mean contracts are void and players can leave. Would be silly to risk contracts that you paid 7, 8, 9 figure sums for, or risk those players being unable to perform at the level expected, unless there’s absolutely no other way. Young people are not known for making mature and sensible decisions, I can see why clubs want to retain as much control as possible. Yes, players would lose out if they didn’t stay fit, but clubs would just as much I’m not saying this is right, by the way, I think it shows a massive problem with football contracts in general, but I can see the logic for clubs.
As if there weren't enough things stacked in favour of the players, now we can't furlough them in case they all come back like fat fuckers. You couldn't make this **** up. Let them get fat, I don't mind. If they don't value their careers, that's fine with me. I've had to check the Beeb website to remind myself that we're 7 points from safety and bottom of the table. We need to overtake 3 clubs to retain Championship status. IMHO if the season ever gets completed, we're going down. So we might as well have some fun on the way. Remember how we all chuckled when the Southend physio ran on to the pitch. How much funnier would it be if we had 11 like that on the pitch? Bring it on. (Sorry... Cabin fever setting in now...)
Some clubs have Furloughed players already and I've not seen anything saying they would be able to get out of contracts from any reputable source. Not saying it isn't true but if you have something I would like to read it.
I'm not saying it is true, I hope I made that clear earlier by saying if it's true, apologies if not, but there is certainly worry about it from clubs. To be honest I don't think anybody knows if it's true or not. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...slashing-wages-fear-star-players-leaving.html
Interesting. Not only have Sunderland furloughed their squad but they are still giving them training plans and monitoring their fitness which they believe they can do as that is beneficial for the player but not the club who can't benefit from it as there is no football being played.
I believe that if they only pay 80% it's a possibility but if they top up the wages and therefore only save £2500 a month per player then there is no comeback. I'm basing that on general employment where employees have to agree to 80% furlough but 100% furlough doesn't amount to any change in employment contract as the contracted salary is still paid in full.
But you can't claim anything for the government if that person is seen to be working for you or acting in your interests. The option to pay 80% or top up to 100% is entirely at the discretion of the employer, or at least that is my understanding. I'm furloughed on 80% but if BrewDog topped me up to full salary it wouldn't mean they suddenly had permission for me to do any jobs for them.
Sunderland were and are utter scum for forcing me to contribute to Will Grigg's wages. We're no better. Everyone likes to think their football club is special, and there have been times in the past when I genuinely thought we were. But nope. We're just another business, another organisation which is balls-deep in the pig-trough. When this is over, the relationship between football supporter and football club will have changed for good. Fanatic will be replaced by consumer.
No what I mean by the 80/100 part is that at 100% the players can't claim any form of breach of contract so can't walk away for free. At 80% it would possibly be different. The keeping fit thing is a seperate issue which I believe Sunderland are trying to get round by saying a player keeping himself fit is in the players interests not the club's as they claim it makes no difference to them if a player is fit or not right now as there isn't any football being played. Dodgy ground but I can at least understand the argument.
