2) two 25 minute dog walks at least 10 metres away from anyone?

Both depend on whether Fonzie has a SWAT team armed with sniper rifles.

 

I've just watched that and learned nothing I didn't already know - what do you think he said that we didn't know?

 

For the last couple of weeks, we have been restricting our dog to one longer walk *each* per day (2-3 miles with me, and 1-2 miles with the wife). We have been trying to get her to do her business in the garden, but she won't (even with treats). This is now starting to make her ill, so we are going to have to take her out first thing and last thing for her health. Taking her out at midnight for 2-3 minutes isn't a problem to the grass at the end of the road (10m), as nobody is ever around, and its rare I see anyone at 8am (this would be to the bin, so maybe 200m).

On the one hand, I don't want to go near anyone and run the risk of catching or spreading an infection, but on the other hand, the welfare of the dog is also important and if we don't do this we will be facing an expensive vet bill - plus additional exposure to risk at the vets.

 

I took my dog out for his morning walk on the field yesterday morning, whilst I’m at work and my wife is furloughed she takes him out. We’re very careful not to come into contact with anyone so don't let him off the lead and cross the road if we do see anyone. Yesterdays walk was interrupted by a female jogger who shouted excuse me from behind and as we turned ran between us, passing us within inches. I’ve rang a vulnerable workmate this morning self isolating for 12 weeks to see how he was. He said it was tough staying in especially when he watched two dozen mamils racing down his street in a big pack yesterday flouting the 2m distance advice. Unfortunately there are selfish,entitled,it can’t happen to me types in abundance. It will continue ,so I fear more stringent measures will come in because on the evidence of this weekend easter is going to be a disaster if the weather is good.

I have provided you with experts who question the current policy - the bottom line is we have shutdown the country when we don't know the denominator for this virus, and we do know that putting people into prolonged isolation and economic distress definitely shortens lives.
You are welcome to defend the current policy, I am equally free to question it, not based on what Vicky off Facebook said, but based on what experts in the field are saying.

That expert said nothing new - he 'suggested' that if the current situation went on for 18 months it's not be helpful; but I don't see any suggestion that 18 months would happen.

On the contrary mate, I was referring to the widely-reported lock in in Notts: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-england-nottinghamshire-52128883 and also reports in Bristol of lock-ins, as informed by my housemate who's a copper. I was also referring to the groups on the beaches in Brighton and Northumberland (again reported in the news), the sun bathers in London parks, and the barbeque in Coventry.

I dont comment negatively on Barnsley unless it's factual (even then I'm reluctant to do so because I'm very proud of where I'm from) and because I no longer live there, and my only real source is my mum, who goes solely by the Chron and Terry & Jane across the street. I'm glad that the Vic's landlady has cleared her name, it's bad enough as it is without fake rumours going round about pubs that dont need it and could well go under because of all this. Im glad you challenged me because if I was referring to the Vic I would be bang out of order.

Totally agree with you about social media too, it's why I came off 'facey' about three years ago, because it wears many faces (facesbook?) and is full of *****-stirrers who get off on being offended and taking some misplaced moral high ground. I would urge others to come off it too, in years to come I think it will show to have had an adverse effect on many people mentally. Nothing really positive to come from it. Yeh people can track down others and stay in touch, but I think there are other ways to do that on a far less damaging platform I.e. phone calls, email etc.

At the end of the day they need to come down hard on the examples like this where people are taking the piss. I think if they take really far more draconian measures against the responsible many it will backfire. Lots of people still working, other than frontline staff is the biggest worry. I had to walk into Leeds last week to bank a cheque to cover my rent (no banks / post office open in Headingley). I passed only about 6 people on the walk in & out (which is a 5 mile trip). In the centre there was construction work going on & zero evidence of any social distancing being observed. I chose walk, as I thought it safer than using the bus for me & all concerned, given it can be days before symptoms emerge & I could be carrying it too & infect the driver or other passengers.

I'll add that the Vic story illustrates the danger that everyone becomes curtain twitchers & rumour spreaders. We will have reached the fascist utopia at that stage.

You're mistaking IT for technicians and operators. I worked as a technical operator in a TV studio for a number of years. If I didn't go in, and many others like me, people didn't get TV shows.

 

The two poodle crosses I walk are absolute **** machines. I'm sure they see it as leaving me some kind of Easter treasure trail.

Rex, the cavapoo (I guess there is a hint in the name of the breed), can have forced out 3-4 in an hour long walk & is still straining to try & produce just one more, a bit further down the trail.

 

That is the issue. also if some garages don't stay open, who services the key worker's car, etc. This list is endless TBH as to who may be deemed essential & to some degree it's why the strategy, whilst maybe being the best of a bad lot is flawed in that it won't stop this.

 

May I suggest you stop feeding them tikka masala every day

 

If there is such a thing as keto diet for dogs then id definitely recommend it. You never **** then!
