Well we don't agree on the approach ST but the government backed by experts have decided on a course of action and you're right.....refusing to follow it just makes the solution more difficult. If people had used common sense about social distancing then those taking sensible precautions about exercise wouldn't be in danger of being further inconvenienced. There's always some who think rules don't apply to them though and ruin it for everyone else.

I’d follow them whether I agree with them or not as I figure that anyone who doesn’t always uses the excuse that they think they know best. It’s often quite clear that they don’t but they are adamant that they do. That makes me realise that me thinking something different doesn’t mean I am right, even if I really believe it. Everyone always really believes it, therefore believing it isn’t a good enough excuse by itself.

It gets worse knowing animals can get it. Dog walkers be careful.

It came from animals in the first place, didn't it?

    It was.

JP was right. Your attitude stinks. Very much the self righteous pillock.

I am not breaking any laws by walking the dog twice a day.

Its very rare that when we are out someone comes within 10 meters of us if we even see anyone.

I see more Cobbs than people.

If i took him once a day we'd be out around 90 minutes. Be up and down the pavements. Bumping into people. Struggling to maintain 'social distance' protocal.

So please enlighten me what I should do to avoid people?

Same with people who drive away from a beaten track to walk their dogs as they know it is quiet.

What should they do? Walk to the busy field with all the other dog walkers or drive a mile to somewhere quite. To avoid people which is the entire aim of social distancing is it not?

Perhaps you should use some common sense if it hasnt already leaked out your ears and see that theres grey areas rather than seeing everything fixed in black and white.

All this saga is doing is making me realise that a significant percentage of our population are selfish ********.

We’ve followed the guidelines, I’m the only one from our household that goes shopping. In 13 days I’ve done 2 big supermarket trips, 1 pharmacy trip & 1 trip to the local shop to get what we couldn’t get at the supermarket. They’re the only times I’ve been in fairly close proximity to anyone but people in my household.

We go on a family walk most days from our house & I’ve attempted a jog when the Mrs hasn’t fancied a walk all on quiet routes. Not even touched anything, no gates, benches etc just to be careful.

It’s killing us not seeing our parents mainly because we’ve got a baby who they absolutely love to see. Having your wife & mother in-law in tears because they can’t see each other is tough to watch but it makes it 10 times worse when the neighbours parents come round for Sunday dinner today & when the house across the road has 3 different cars come for the afternoon & a canopy up in the garden with them all sat round eating & drinking. Both houses had people stood outside clapping Thursday night as well.

It makes it 10 times worse when we go on a walk & see 7 or 8 teenagers probably in the 16-18 age range all sat together drinking cans who are all probably going back to 7 or 8 different houses with adults & potentially siblings living in them.

We go to the supermarket & there’s families still going together, surely the staff have the right to tell all but one of them to leave?

It’s just frustrating. I would’ve loved a sunday dinner with the family & a few beers today. I would’ve loved a game of 5 a side this week, to go visit my brother & his family, to go see my best mate & his family, to go for a few beers with my mates etc but where as I’m missing out it feels like plenty are just carrying on as normal

I've read the secret barrister, very happy to criticise the legal system but still earn a fat buck out of it. Don't look here for a moral compass

I'd be surprised if the secret barrister is earning "a fat buck" as a junior criminal defence barrister. And even if he or she was I don't see how their moral compass is compromised - are you trying to say that being part of a profession means they can't criticise the government's administration of it? Cos that's utter nonsense. It's like saying that doctors aren't entitled to criticise cuts to NHS funding.

Two things strike me about this. The first is that the government responds to what happens in London and as usual that shapes it's response. Therefore we all suffer a bit.
The second is that the focus in some sections of the populace is finding a way to circumvent the rules. Simply NO. Do not go out unless you have a reason. That does not include trying to impress us all on Facebook with the length of your Strava run, nipping to the shops to buy an advocado etc. Your trumped up self importance might cost a life.

Twas ever thus, you start at the bottom. Level one barrister, unless they are a complete dullard, ten years hence be at least a level three, £800 a day then for first couple of days of criminal trial, £400 thereafter if it cracks then of to double clock their time. Agree it's difficult but if you don't like it do something else. I've met some brilliant barristers but also met some absolute tossers. Remember watching one run off at Liverpool crown court cos one case earned more than another one. Trouble is the one she didn't want was a womans application to be released after being sent to prison by an admin error.

Is it ever known for a barrister to drag a case out in order to get more money?

Depends mate. I've had baristers ring me asking to up a page count from 240 to 250 cos they earn more tax payer money on an uplift on page count

This was advice given by my local MP, Alex Sobel:

I have had contact with several constituents asking about exercise, some people feel like they cannot exercise from home due to living on a main road with little pavement or in a very built up urban area. The guidance is that you should not need to drive to exercise and the closure of the car parks are in reference to that. That said, I cannot see anything unreasonable about driving a short distance if you have to do so due to your individual circumstances. I think the point is to use common sense, adhere to the spirit of the rules rather than work to a technocratic solution. If we all take the guidance seriously and act appropriately we will have no need for enforcement. I have been in dialogue with the council and police as I think we need to think more deeply about reasonable access to parks and open country spaces for exercise during this period.

He's not moaning and sniping. Quite the opposite. He's trying to have a discussion while all around moan and snipe.

The thing that keeps astonishing me is that people genuinely believe if we follow the rules it will be over in a few weeks. No it won't. There is no vaccine and there is no cure. It's not going away. Even if we get the number of cases in the UK down to zero (which we won't) but if we do, which will require total lock down of absolutely everyone, no food shopping, no deliveries, no TV, no Internet, nothing, absolutely no one leaving their house, for at least a month, and then disinfecting every single hard surface in the country, even if we do that, as soon as we trade anything with another country, it will be back.

If we relax the rules of lockdown before we rid the virus from the country then we'll back to the levels we have now in just a few weeks.

What we're doing cannot work. If you take the knowledge we already have in how quickly it spreads then apply any possible future scenario to that knowledge you get a repeat of the epidemic. I think we should all be talking about that.
