Someone on twitter defending them saying there was nothing in the ambulance appearing - just normal. If three in a day was normal then health and safety would be all over them like a rash

Can you tell me the circumstances leading up to the need to call an ambulance? Is it Covid-19 related? How often are ambulances called to businesses who employ as many as ASOS?

Never said it was and I repeat my point that if 3 ambulances are called out in a day and that is normal then health and safety would be asking some serious questions. Do you think it's normal?

ASOS at Barnsley employs around 4000 people. The most comparable employer I can think of in terms of numbers at one site is sports direct who had around 4000 people at their distribution centre doing a similar job. Sports direct had 76 ambulances called to its distribution centre over a period of two years which is on average one every 9.6 days.

Interesting stat - thanks. Doubt Asos would have had 2100 ambulances if Saturday was a normal day

Never said it was what? I haven't made a statement, I've just asked three questions. I don't know what is normal (although I've now read Supertyke's post) so as such I wouldn't make a comment. Having now read Supertyke's post, an average of one ambulance every 10 days (rounding up), I would think it highly likely that three could occur in one day, rather than them being spread uniformly, every 10 days.

Very odd way to look at it. How many did they have the day before? I'm guessing none. So if we take that as the norm, like you have done for this particular day, we'd expect 0 multiplied by 730, which of course is zero.

It was extreme and I apologise but as I said it's incredibly unusual for three in one day..Going back to my original point - someone said this was normal on Twitter - it clearly isn't normal whatever the reason

My point is that I don't know if it is. I'm not having a go, honestly I'm not, I'm trying for people to think rationally, not reactionary. Places with so many people present call ambulances (the working conditions are a separate argument, if you want me to sign up for employees to get better working conditions and more money, just show me where to sign). Such incidents can be averaged out over a length of time, as Supertyke's figures have shown, but that doesn't mean they happen in a uniform order. You can have many incidents one week and none the next. Many incidents one month and few the next. And even a few incidents one day and none for weeks. Or a run of days when you get a lot of incidents and then none for months. That's how averages work.

I think it's unusual but not impossible for 3 ambulances to go there in a day. I don't think it's likely to be anything to do with the current pandemic.

What it does say, to me, is that they are clearly a burden on the NHS, at a time when they clearly don't need an extra burden.

I don't know if it should close or not, there's clearly an argument to be had for either option. They should surely be trying to increase working conditions though. They should be better always, of course, but now more than ever. 3 ambulances in one day suggests that isn't happening. Could be a false equivalency, I admit that.

You are right but the poster on twitter said it was just a normal day as he know somewhere who works there - I questioned that idea of a normal day

To expand on what I've said and why I'm so concerned about this thread:

The government have NOT said only key workers can go to work. They've said that if you can work from home, then you absolutely should. You cannot pack clothes in a warehouse from home. You just can't. Covid-19 is horrendous. I'm not doubting that. The social problems we may have to endure from the measures we have taken to defeat it may eclipse that ten fold. And I'm not exaggerating. I may be wrong but my worries are valid. ASOS employs thousands of people. Many are on zero hour contracts. Many are from foreign countries, estranged from their families, living week to week in houses of multiple occupancy with no savings and no way home. What happens if you make thousands of people unemployed, penniless and unable to feed themselves? What happens when the businesses of those furloughed no longer have the cash to pay their workforce, awaiting reimbursement from the government? What happens when no one is generating money anymore and we're all waiting for handouts? No one is talking about this, but we damn well should.

It's not vital but what have they put in place to prevent the contamination. Arriva have cut back to skeleton staffs with some workers being furloughed - has this happened @asos. Cutting people can still cut the footfall and increase the social distancing- have they provided masks , hand samtisers , is the place being sterilised?

I can't answer any of your questions because I don't know. I do know what people are capable of when they're hungry and I do know it is coming and I do know it is not being addressed.

From what I've read and seen on twitter - There's no social distancing, they haven't got any PPE and the hand sanitizer that is on offer has 0% alcohol content due to no alcohol being allowed on site, so it does no good, basically.

I did read somewhere that they were stopped/not allowed to wear masks as it is not part of the uniform....whether true or not....don't know.

If things were set up for their visit to show the working environment was safe for workers what do you expect the council to do.?

I would hope they have been on the phone since (Jeremy Corbyn's drawn attention to it) to say it no longer is acceptable.
