My general knowledge is good, I got a good degree but ask me what my first match was or the score of a match or when my first pint was I haven't got a clue. Only the year if I think hard about what else happened that year. My gran could remember all her holidays, years, who she met etc down to the day!
I can remember pointless stuff (except for names of famous people in conversation) but am **** at general knowledge.
I am full of admiration for those supporters who remember every match going back decades - names of players - scores - who was booked - referee - the weather etc. Although I do wonder if all this football knowledge means they are lacking in other mental faculties...…. Regards memory - I keep a diary and looking back at some old entries there are events that I attended that I have absolutely no recollection of.
My long range memory is a lot better than my short range memory. I can remember loads of stuff about 70s and 80s football, but I'd struggle to tell you the results of our games this season. The good news is that in 30 years time, it'll all come back to me.
My head is jam packed with irrelevant stuff. Vehicle registrations, phone numbers, who won the FA Cup in a certain year, who sang this and in what year... Yet I couldn’t remember what I did yesterday, where I went on holiday last year or who with...
I'm like thee I can do summat but cant remember when r did it, I go to shop and bring more back than r went for and half an it we dint want. I fort r was just FIK.
Unrelated but I used to keep a gigography, helps immensely as some of the bands I’ve seen I literally can’t remember doing so! mainly festivals to be fair but the odd club gig too
I’m with you on this Helen especially when it comes to our games, I can remember certain games but in general I haven’t a clue,
I I can remember most of the bands bands at the Buxton festival in 1973.... Wishbone Ash Family Steppenwolf John Kay band Glencoe DJ was John Peel and Curved Air refused to play.
Its a worrying sign of getting older - I used to have a really good memory but since I got to around 40 its been steadily getting worse - its starting to annoy the Mrs as she thinks I am doing it deliberately as she reminds me of things I said I would do and I have no recollection of agreeing to do them. I might be tempted to think she was trying it on but there are other things I am forgetting as well so she is probably right
No you’re not on your own with that . I can remember snippets of small insignificant things but that’s about it . I sometimes look at old clips of games or read a programme or whatever and see a player and think who the fek is he lol
Just wait 'til you get older it gets worse, but there is some good news. I had a conversation with a cousin who is a psychiatrist who said that most of us old giffers don't have memory loss it's lack of recollection. She explained the difference between recollection and memory thus. If we meet someone we know and can't bring to mind their name then that's failing to recollect. If we meet a family member or close friend and don't know who they are, that is memory loss and what is a key feature of Dementia and Alzheimers.
