Is this post serious? Why do you think you represent the views of Barnsley born people. Your arrogance is astonishing but sadly something we have seen too much of in the last 10years.
I've got many of stories to tell of meetings in constituency. When we all decided which way we would vote in conferance. Don't be sure I don't know anything. Scargill was not all innocence.
Thatchers main aim was to teach the Miners/ Unions a lesson after what happened under Ted Heaths Premiership. It was malice pure and simple.
I cant decide if the OP is a WUM or just delusional or one of those Brexit fanatics that means as long as one policy is followed it doesnt matter how big a mess of the rest of running the country Johnson makes but any of the last 5 PM's or even Jeremy Hunt would be doing a better job than Boris has with the C19 crisis
It’s an internet campaign trying to make out Boris and the conservatives saved the world and no other party or minister could have done it . Sadly it will work on a lot if the Brexit debate is comparable.
Of course it was it was about division and Scargill fell into the trap. We had an overtime ban which was hurting. Hence close the pit on Yorkshire. Not long before pickets were outside church lane from Wales . We carried on working I wasn't allowed to strike as I was an apprentice. Like I say lots of stuff went on in the early 80s prior to 84
**** the **** off and keep ******* off until you get back here. Then **** off some more. Boris has blood on his hands because he prioritized the economy over people. He prioritized his rich backers who have been shorting the stock market over people, and because he prioritized ideology by refusing to work with the EU pandemic response team, to allow Matt Hancock to join the daily co-ordination conference calls and because he is still refusing to join the EU procurement effort for respirators, PPE and over essential kit - and a company in NI that manufactures this kit has still not been approached by the NHS about buying any. Oh yes, and he is also refusing to extend the transition which will cause unnecessary disruption to business that is already struggling to survive.
Whilst I agree with your sentiment, is there any need for that opening sentence? This guy is well into his late 80s and has put an I'll thought out post to a largely socialist BBS hence the responses. However, he still doesn't deserve the foul mouthed abuse hes getting on here no matter what hes written.
Its hilarious. Theyre bashing Corbyn for what he hasnt done...and praising BoJo for what HE hasnt done.
I Its a message to the thick and gullible from Dominic Cummings. He of the 350 million a day which they also believed.
You are absolutely right Bazza. For I was also committed to the Union and very closely involved with the leadership throughout the strike! And it is no coincidence that without exception, all those closest to the centre of things soon came to realise a different truth. But I will now desist from further contact with people who nevertheless delude themselves about something that happened forty years ago. Or seek to attach those imagined ills to our current Government. Let alone hide their ignorance behind a barrage of abuse and profanity.
Did i say he did ? Many things happened prior to 1984 eg steel workers outside dodeth pit eary 80s . It was a working class struggle I can't remember us coming out with the steel workers. I can't remember us supporting the lads From Betwys I think in 82 ish. Scargill needed a ballot to get us all out thru the ballot box which I believe they would have. How could we expect the TUC to back us when we hadn't ballots all the members
And 3 years as a delegate from the num to tje labour party . I just try to have a ballances view . Rights and wrongs from both sides. I beleive it was a struggle we could have won with wider support. It wasnt all as clear as suggested
Not disputing that it was your retort that labour had closed more pits than the Tories without explaining why it was different to the Tory closure .
I believe you are right that Thatcher's ideology caused huge damage to society for years and she closed the pit's and took on the miners union for the sole reasons that she saw the union movement as an enemy and was intent on destroying it. Nevertheless there is something missing in the discussion about the pit closures.. They would have eventually closed anyway and not in a much more extended timeframe than happened under Thatcher, since, although the UK had the most efficient deep mined coal industry in the World AND were the World leaders in developing clean burn technology, the Coal board could simply not compete with the vast open cast mining concerns in other parts of the World and, above all heavily state subsidised stuff being imported into the UK. The fact she closed the pits (albeit for totally the wrong reasons) was ultimately a correct decision. HOWEVER, her biggest failing was that she had no exit strategy and cut the Northern, NE and Welsh Industrial regions loose (Steel went the same way as did shipbuilding on the Clyde) as she focussed on London and the City causing destruction of communities and hardship for tens of thousand of people. the effects of which are still being felt to this day in many regions. Again Steel was uncompetitive due to the fact that China and other places were competing in a shrinking market and state subsidising their products. The World was changing and heavy industry and mining were destined to be consigned to history so Scargill never really stood a chance of winning the fight.
