Had to open the door as she had a parcel for us! Normally a plus as she's absolutely gorgeous. But today I though should I take the parcel or ask her to leave it on the door step!
I got the council tax bill and the water rates bill in the same delivery last week. It was like some kind of evil BOGOF.
Our policy is to leave the parcel on the doorstep, knock, 5 steps back and wait for the customer to pick the parcel up. the problem isn’t with card as the virus cannot survive on card, it kills it almost instantly. The problem is it can survive for 14 days on plastic wrap and bags. it’s made out job damn hard at the moment, and it’s extremely sad to see some of the older folk suffering. For example a lady I deliver to, she’s in her late 80s and her family live abroad and cannot fly over to see to her due to the restrictions. She got on the bus to the Asda and came home with nothing, she had no food or no tea bags. It’s heartbreaking to see the older end suffer due to not having the basics such as food. So to all them who boarded and have took vital supplies away from those who desperately need it, shame on you! Disgraceful. luckily a few of us from the depot got her a few bits such as bread, tins and toilet rolls. So for anyone who has elderly neighbours it might be wise to ask to see if they need anything. Losing our elderly due to this awful virus is bad enough, but potentially losing them due to having no food is just scandalous in this day and age.
I went to shop on way home and paid the lady with coins and it occurred to me how many people is she coming into close contact in a day.
some only taking card payments now, my job means i come into close contact with loads of the public every day, and also handling all sorts of stuff with no hand sanitise liquid supplied at work as they won't get any, and still probably no where near as much as supermarket check out staff, yet boris is asking me not to go to the pub for an hour once a week to have a chin wag with my mate and maybe come close to 5 or 6 other people during that time who obviously also feel well enough for a pint or to pull 1 too can't fathom out our strategy in this situation, money seems to be priority as now
Seriously if your job puts you in that much risk - you’re the last person who should be in a pub. but more seriously; I have a group of mates (mostly retired) I used to work with, today we set up a Skype group and had a video chat. We usually go out several times a year for a meal and beers, but for the time being, we’ll meet more often ‘virtually’ to keep morale up. I’m WFH and my wider team set up a WhatsApp group today, the reality is that it’s never been easier to communicate, we just have to grasp the nettle and get used to a different way of having a natter.
i've not been to a pub, my point is i'm told as long as i feel fine i should keep on putting myself and others at potential risk by working, i spend 40hrs+ per week in this situation with boris's backing, as do millions of others yet just 1 hour in my own public space and i would get chastised? crazy
I understand your point. There are hundreds of thousands of people who we need to continue working in order for the country to run. but no one ‘needs’ to go to the pub; there’s loads of ways of socialising and / or drinking. I fail to see how the concept is difficult. And thanks for risking yours and your families health in helping keep the country running.
