Rumour going round on Twitter is he has fallen down the stairs and sadly passed away Really hope this aint true.
Keith Gillespie confirming it's true on Twitter. Always a threat when he played against the Reds. RIP Peter.
Wow, just goes to show you can go anytime. Always came across as good guy, professional and a good player. RIP
So very easy to happen, even for someone young and relatively fit. Just before I left Donny to come over to Wakefield, I went for a night out with some of my mates to the Bay Horse in Hatfield and had a pint with a lad who I had grown up with in our village. His wife had just had a baby and so after a couple of pints, he left to return home to help her to bathe their newborn. One of the lads phoned me the following morning to tell me, that unfortunately, my mate had tripped on his way down the stairs carrying the babies towels and had broken his neck and unfortunately at the age of thirty five, he had died. Such a tragedy for something like that to happen to a really top lad.
Peter Whittingham was a excellent midfielder, a pleasure to watch, who always seemed to give his best for whoever he was playing for. Very sad if true.
There was a story that a teacher at Foulstone was killed that way running down the long corridor and hit the ceiling on the stairs - possibly back in the 50s or 60s.
Cardiff City have just announced that he has died. Terrible news. What a player he was - one of those whom you always wished was on your side.
