Should schools close?

Why don’t they close all schools now,but come the summer holidays reopen them but say just have 2wks off.
This way they should not lose much teaching and their exams should not be affected.

 

The only reason (economy aside) I can think of is the kids in last year exams and the knock on effect.
As an example my daughter is in last year and due to take her exams this year and would then have to wait for her results to know which college course to apply for.
So delaying would mean a knock on effecting next years enrolment.
Not an insurmountable problem and may have no choice anyway.

 

Yes, a subtle difference that means that pubs, clubs, and others in that sector can't claim on their insurance and have to take the financial hit from closing themselves.

When was the last time you were in a school? Most schools are overcrowded. If you think there’s less risk of transferring the disease in a cinema, then we’ll have to respectfully disagree.

I’m not sure what the response is for care homes, but hopefully the best of society will come through.

Your wife currently may be, as supply teachers generally are. But you are so far from the mark.

 

I would ask you same about a cinema or theatre?
If you think you sit closer at a school than you do one of those and the buildings are less condensed then yes we would have to agree to disagree.

Hiw long since you were at school? Most of them you are struggling to walk round the tables!

 

Last time I was at school was yesterday morning when I dropped my granddaughter off.
There is a huge difference between 200 odd people crammed into a theatre with poor ventilation and literally sat on top of each other against 35-40 kids sat at tables with lots of ventilation, and not sat on each other.

 

Also, I never mentioned full classes I said dramatically smaller groups, so not sure why class sizes are relevant?

 

If the schools close now then there will be a huge increase in the demand for Kleenex etc.... as milions of adolescant boys log onto RedTube with alarming regularity.

 

Not all schools are the same. In a secondary you could easily have 200 in the cafeteria right on top of each other!

 

In some cases they are. They are given a class and work for that class. Some then sit there whilst the class is looked after, then no need for marking/planning/building working relationships with students.

I was trying to mitigate the reason the gents wife thought that teachers were child sitters.

 

Accepted, my daughter goes to a school with over a thousand in it so could easily believe it there.


As i said in my other post I have never once mentioned standard class sizes, I clearly stated about much smaller ones, so not sure why people have moved onto class sizes when it’s not relevant.

 

Err you’re the only one mentioned about being child sitters. You took a suggestion that is perfectly feasible and instead of given a practical, logistical or H&S reason went off on a tangent about sitters, when the thread was about options.

There’s a lot of staff members off at our school. The head has sent home all pregnant staff and those with underlying health conditions plus lots are self-isolating. The special school is also closed from tomorrow as it’s just too risky having the students on site.

So you say it’s not feasible but you’ve offered nothing as to why, with a few teething problems it can’t work.

Anyway I didn’t offer another solution because I’m not sure what another solution could be... I didn’t realise this was part of cobra.
