Employ the equivalent of the pools panel to predict the scores of the remaining games, or programme a sophisticated computer to work them out?
Seriously ! I dont know where to start on that other than it will be a lawyers wet dream for all the sides that just miss out on promotion or safety who would find grounds to challenge the results - of course we would have beaten stoke etc, and its so prone to allegations of bias or corruption. It would be better to just freeze it as it stands. -Though thats a bad idea as well For me we should do all we can to finish - but if its really not possible the idea of promoting extra teams to the Prem and no relegations seems the least bad.
The pools panel were so random it was beyond comprehension how they reached some of the results they did. As others have said I think it would end up a legal minefield if they decided the season in this way.
Every club’s main fans forum should send their biggest nutjack to represent them in a massive fu.ckwittery competition.
I don't know who sits on the Pools panel these days, but I do recall that at one time, one such member who also was on the Red card appeals panel, spent his entire football career with one of the teams near the drop zone in the Championship, so unbiased selection of panel members would have to be an important consideration should that format be employed. The popular concensus would appear to be, that all internationals and Cup games should be deferred and that the remaining games in the Premiership and EFL yet to be fulfilled, should be played without any pre- determined time limit. What we don't know at this stage of course, is how long it will take for the spread of the virus to abate and whether there could be any possibility of it flaring up again in the future. Latest estimate is that circa 80% of the UK's population could contract the virus, so as others have said, until we are through the worst, it makes eminent sense to postpone sports events, travel etc and any activities that increas the risk of passing the virus on.
I can come up with no better idea, if the season was stopped, than to play a bottom 3, top 3, playoff at some stage, goodness knows when. Take the league positions as they are now and take it from there. And no bloody Wembley final !!
The only reasonable solution is to work out everyone’s position based on how they did against 2nd and 3rd in the current table. Anyone still to play these teams assumes a loss. Sorted. Next
I don’t know why there’s even a question of finishing the season. Resume the season as soon as it’s safe to play, and figure out what has to give from next season. Much less complicated to pass the impact onto competitions that haven’t started yet.
when will it be safe to play? it won’t be April 4th that’s for sure. This will go on for months? footballers contracts end 30th June.
