Mayoral and Local Council elections have now been postponed for twelve months.

Fortunately for us our Drs and pharmacy are opposite one another and a kilometre from our house AND within our commune boundary. If it wasn't we would need a document to confirm our journey was necessary (as would be the case if the petrol station was outside our commune which again is not the case). I had to go today actually and at the farmacia they have installed Perspex screens on the counter, have surgicalgloves and the proper 'full on' surgical masks and head coverings (the sort you see in operating theatres) as well as full face protectors (the sort you see in isolation and containment centres) Talk about 'belt and braces' !

Many of the communes around here are offering a drop off service for people self isolating (particularly the elderly and given the fact that most public transport is suspended) where if you order from the local shop the council will collect and deliver to your home and also collect and deliver prescriptions from the Farmacia. We dont need that as we have the car. People generally are pulling together as is normally the case in rural areas. You get the odd scam merchant - usually not a local (someone advertising a vaccine "only available from Switzerland" at 50 euros a pop and another advertising facemasks for sale (which dont exist as they are impossible to get and dont work anyway as they are just dust masks)) Both scams were notified to us by commune newsletters which are keeping everyone up to date and also sending out morale boosting messages and memes.

It was funny at the Farmacia... a woman was waiting outside with a small boy who was wearing a totally ineffective face mask as there was such a big gap between it and most of his face. Even though they had marked lines a metre apart if there was a queue she would not go in until it was empty of customers. One woman had a scarf and was holding cling film over it. No idea how she could breath... Oh hang on it was only covering her mouth, her nose was completely uncovered:rolleyes:

Hoping my daughter gets to come home early as theres a shortage of face masks in the dental hospital and presumably it would make sense to keep those for emergencies.

Latest. We are now being told that a new decree in our region requires the self certification of need to travel even within our own commune. So if I need to go to the Chemist, local shop or, as I did last night, nip out to the mobile fish van as we had had a busy day digging and planting potatoes, cutting wood for the wood stove etc. and could not be ar*ed cooking we would need the form. I am not even sure going out for fried fish constitutes essential travel either:(:(-

Three more arrested yesterday in the area. Two for leaving their commune without documentation (One came all the way from Padua) and one for serving customers with Pizza after 6pm. Those prisons are going to get a bit full at this rate!

I’m booked to go on a stag do for a good mate, weekend in Albufeira from Good Friday 10th April.

Flights and hotel cost nearly £500, I can’t see us going so I can only hope we are refunded.

So sporting events are cancelled, what about Theme Parks etc, Daughter is driving down to Lego Land tonight, she rang them and they have said they have no intention of shutting unless instructed by the Goverment.
