Gillingham, we were 2-0 up and cruising, made it 2-1 just before half time as I recall. Went on to win 4-1, Gary Jones scoring via a massive deflection to seal it. Pretty much our best result and performance under Parkin. We were relegated that season on 48 points (if someone offered me 48 this season I’d snap their hand off and take the punt), one point behind rotherham who survived with Wednesday only one point better off. We then nearly folded the following season, the story has been told enough - but due to having the rug pulled from under us re an overdraft and a comparatively small debt. Had the bank not done that, and Dennis kept hold of the club, I have no idea what would have happened. Apologies, slightly off topic!!
Can't remember which match but I remember Larry May smashing in an unstoppable shot, unfortunately into his own goal.!
Also remember Davey making Muller go back out to play (hobble around in goal) with a ruptured cruciate.
Thanks. I remember it being someone ex-Man City and presumed it was Donachie who had previous. According to wikipedia, Futcher played for us 230 times without scoring (for us) and so that one must have been the only goal he scored for Barnsley, finishing more like his twin brother.
He did something similar late on against Luton Town at Oakwell. He went rushing off his line to collect a long ball and it bounced over his head gifting Luton a 2-1 win.
It may well be the Luton town game I’m thinking about memories not Brill these days , not that it ever was great mind .
