I think he has a point. Betting should only be on the game.

    Nah.

Bookies are subhuman scum (exchanges aside) but it amounts to insider trading which is illegal when betting on the stock market.

A bet is just that - 'I think this will happen, therefore I stake x.'

When you know what's happening, it's fraud.

Not that I am ever unhappy to see the likes of Fred or Billy get rinsed. They are vile, and they deserve it.

Betting on the outcome of results by professionals involved in the game is taboo and has been since
the 1964 scandal involving widespread Match fixing. Back then, the ultimate punishment could be a custodial sentence
whilst these days, depending on the severity of the offence, it normally involves a suspension and a fine.
Simple remedy for Sturridge and others that risk getting brought to book, is don't do it.

Agreed. All professional footballers the rules. Even I know the rules - and I'm neither a footballer or a gambler.

I didnt know you could bet on someone being transferred to a club. No wonder there's such a gambling problem. Although I suppose thinking about it you can bet on next managers. As ive said before enough to just bet on the game.

Only this wasn’t a bet on the outcome of a game. I don’t know the full story but it seems this is he mentioned to his brother he was possibly moving to a Spanish side. And presumably his brother placed a bet. Now if I was thinking of moving to a new job in a different country I think I would want to talk to my sister and parents about it. Fortunately for me if my sister went to a bookies and wanted to bet on me moving to Austria this summer she would be laughed at. For footballers and managers it’s different
Clearly if Sturridges brother bet with that info that’s an offence. But it’s a bit more of a grey area whether taking to a close relative about moving to a new country is really passing on inside info.

He was found guilty on two charges of instructing his brother to bet money on him moving to Seville, but was also found not guilty of sharing confidential information to friends and family, he clearly did share info and it doesn’t say why not guilty but would guess his defence was he sharing counsel etc.
Some of the evidence given on the not guilty counts showed a track record of his family betting on his transfers.

The real irony in this case is because the Seville move did not come off the family lost money on the bets(which if had come off would have paid out over £300k)

It makes a bit more sense why he’s suing his former landlord for £100k now. Must be in need of some cash.

Completely agree. If he’s told people to back him moving to a certain club then he deserves all he gets but if he’s just discussed it with family he’s done nothing wrong in my opinion. If I was thinking of moving abroad I’d be discussing it with family & close friends

He seems to say in the video that no one put a bet on which is a bit strange

In that PTC he says that the panel agreed no one he spoke to placed a bet. Unless I heard it wrong.

    Very contradictive video IMO.
He starts with saying he will continue to fight for the right to talk freely to family members without risk of charges- which suggests he did talk to them.
Then says appeal recognised as you say but didn’t dispute the original findings- the thing to take from this is they too found him guilty and the FA were only appealing the punishment not being harsh enough.
For me the monies quoted are too specific to have not happened, secondly there is a number of examples in the past when they looked into it of bets on his moves from friends and family.

Edit: it was also proven his parents, brother, cousin and parents next door neighbours bet on his transfer to Seville and an extra £20k was rejected described as suspect betting patterns.

From that I’m assuming a disgruntled relative made a complaint he was working for the bookies
