We've outscored 3 teams in the division and conceded fewer than 2. Much of a muchness. Poor at both ends.

We replaced Moore with Schmidt which is one of the worst bits of business I've ever seen our club do. Can't believe people are trying to excuse it. It relegated us.

Id argue...Pinnock's replacement was the worst decision but 2 very very bad thought out ideas.

 

Why Moore?

 

Because he gives you other options and he was scoring for us last season, despite being injured for a good chunk of it. Had a cracking game for Wigan going by their segment on Quest.

 

Unfortunately the other option is smashing the ball upfield for him to try and do something with. I will concede that we have missed his near post clearing headers when defending set pieces, other than that I still think we got good money for him. Opinions eh?

 

I'd agree with you if that money had been spent on strengthening our attack.

Which we already do anyway and there is only brown that can win a header or hold it up. Its not like we play like Barcelona.

 

I’m trying really hard not to be too critical, but if Jacob is the only one who can win a header or hold it up, why hasn’t somebody told him to do it?

 

Why keep saying the same thing about transfer outgoings?

It was clearly stated that Moore no longer wanted to play for us and did not want to sign a new deal. So the board did the correct thing by allowing him to leave. They mentioned in the Q&A when I asked the question that it was starting to impact the dressing room / team mentality so again they had no option other than to keep an unhappy player who wouldn't have put 100% in if ever selected.

His goal return for Wigan has been poor.

Only thing the board could have done better is to sign another forward player who offers something different to what we already have.. ie - Bigger more physical player to hold the ball up etc.. Schmidt wasn't the answer IMO.

 

You think we'd be 16 points better off? Bearing in mind that based on team selections this season, Pinnock would've spent a lot of games alongside Diaby or Andersen and ahead of Radlinger. And the fact that Moore wouldn't exactly improve our finishing.

If we'd kept Pinnock till Jan, I'd suggest we'd all now be talking about how we sold our survival chances in January.

 

Pinnock would have steadied both Andersen and Diaby and taken some pressure off them I think he and Radlinger would have linked up well personally. Maybe not 16 points but I think we'd definitely have got some more points plus improved our new signings.

What I’ve learned from this post is that Wigan aren’t actually famous for its pie making but because the Wigan miners went back to work during the 1926 miners strike earlier than the other miners in the region they were accused of eating humble pie .
The pie making is a myth and turned around by embarrassed Wiganers .

 

To use an oft repeated phrase ‘they would say that wouldn’t they?’. Truth is, the club cashed in on Moore and replaced him with Schmidt. They may well have believed it the right thing to do at the time, but using crap excuses about him wanting to leave, and so they had to let him go, is simply dishonest.

How can you claim it is dishonest with zero proof?

 

Because, as I’ve stated several times, virtually every professional footballer will want to leave if another club offers them significantly more money. It’s the reality of a relatively short career. But the club does not have to sell if the player is under contract. The idea that the player will upset the dressing room, or not try, if he doesn’t get his way, is ludicrous. I would have far more respect for the people running the club if they simply stated that they had stuck to their principles. In other words, they have made it clear that their policy is to sell players on at a profit, and reinvest in the squad. They did so. Some of us were very concerned that doing it in the way they did was a recipe for disaster. The scale of the disaster remains to be seen.
