Leeds had a couple of long term injuries up front, and were permitted to sign Cauley Woodrow, outside of the transfer window as an "emergency signing". Then we were refused permission to sign a replacement..... That's what's just happened in Spain - Barcelona sign Leganas striker Martin Braithwaite as an emergency because they have a player out on a long term injury. Leganas now have to fight relegation without their main striker, and are not allowed to recruit. Never did like the concept of a transfer window, and this seems totally unfair.
A year ago he was playing for Middlesbrough and not particularly good. No he's at Barcelona. That's more of a cultural difference than Cavare leaving us to live in Sion.
I thought only Goalkeepers were allowed to be signed outside the window in an emergency - The scenario you report is just wrong - having said that no one forced Leganas to sell of course
Think Barcelona triggered a release clause, (meaning Leganas had no option if the player wanted to move) - which in itself is a dubious practice outside of the transfer window.
And in Spain you've got to have a release clause in player contracts, so as long as Barca were willing to pay it they never had a choice in the matter. The Spanish league is proper bent and always has been.
Are they not allowed to promote from their B side with them being in a competitive league? Still seems a bit much, either way. Surely Barcelona have a capable understudy.
