Well he his certainly acting chancellor So good to get unlelected bureaucrats out from running our country I thought I was past caring but somehow Boris/Dom have managed to make things even worse sacking the NI minister because he was actually competent, forcing the Chancellor to resign just 4 weeks before the budget and setting us on course to have no meaningful trade deal with our biggest market next year yet people trust the tories more than Labour to run the country - I cant get my head around it

My heart bled when the election results came out, but I have to respect democracy & I'm sad about the situation, but I have to get on with my life & accept what is a terrible state of affairs, that Boris Johnson & Dominic Cummings are now running our country. I hope that when the brexit debacle shows that people were lied to that they won't vote in the Tories again. In the meantime it is what it is. I've spent serious amounts of time with my Dad in A&E in Barnsley, often waiting 10 hours for him to get proper treatment. He still voted Tory.

It's definitely his skin colour because the first thing one would do after sacking Sajid Javid because of his skin colour is appoint Rishi Sunak as his replacement. To be serious though everything I have read points to a resignation.

My understanding based on what I have read is that he resigned over a disagreement with Boris (or Cummings) regarding conditions that would be applied to his team if he was to continue in his role. I think the most revealing quote from Sajid was this "I don't believe any self-respecting minister would accept such conditions and so therefore I felt the best thing to do was to go".
BBC article infers that he was invited to stay on as Chancellor on the understanding that he would be prepared to sack his entire back office advisory team. According to reports on the TV tonight one of Savid Javids qualities, is that he is loyal. He therefore took the only option he saw fit was open to him and resigned. Looks very much as though the Prime Minister rated Javid and would have wanted him to stay on. The resignation looks to have therefore taken Boris by surprise, but in letting him go, it is being said that he has chosen power over personnel. One small point Mr Peachy - I have to remind you and everyone out there that the Tories won 43.6% of the vote but ended with 56.2% of the seats in the HoC - I disagree vehemently that one has to respect this 'democracy' My assertion is this - the country did not want such a government - yes they should have had more seats than any other single party granted, but such a large majority? Put this result against the Brexit vote 52 v 48 - the nation would have been up in arms if the vote had not been acted upon.

This is exactly my view. the majority of the country do not want an extreme right wing government but thats what we have Worse than that the Tories are gearing up to ignore parts of their manifesto. They campaigned on Boris's oven ready deal and a commitment to secure a good deal with the EU at the end of this year. They since modified the deal to take out some parts that had an element of compromise wanted by moderate Brexiters and remainers and are now gearing up to lie about an Australia style trade deal - spoiler alert Australia doesnt have a trade deal with the EU - ie just another name for no deal. To state this government is following the will of the people is not exactly accurate
It must be me.... Before being accused of being a Tory boy writing this I would point out that Dominic Cummings, about whom his post is mainly about is not and has never been affiliated to any political party... I have been curious about this his background and knowing virtually nothing about him or why he seems to be demonised on the BB and some of the media- largely because of a) his influence regarding Brexit and b) the fact he is influencing policy whilst being unelected. However, everything I have read about him this far, not trashy politicised comment tabloid reporting, seems to suggest his motivation and drive is aligned with what many people want or argue for i.e. a complete shift and radical change in the way Westminster and governments function. He wants to rationalise and modernise how Parliament and the civil service function creating a meritocracy. He even states that if his aims are achieved he effectively makes his role redundant. He is clearly highly intelligent and a radical thinker. Coming back to the Chancellor resignation argument, the 'power grab' is more to do with Javid's advisors in the Treasury being highly resistent to the much needed civil service rationalisation/modernisation and policy change Johnson / Cummings want to make i.e. take the brakes off and end austerity. The clash seems to be that the Treasury were regarded as being over cautious (NOW intepreted by the Con bashing media and opposition party spokepersons), as prudent whilst Johnson /Cummings intention to invest heavily in infrastructure is being reported as motivated by short term political gain after promising Nationwide investment. Ironically these naysayers are the same media sources that have been calling for the end to aujsterity for years. It seems people complain bitterly about how detached Westminster and the upper echelons of the civil service are from the ordinary working population, , but as soon as someone comes along with radical ideas and the drive and ruthless determination to make those changes, they suddenly become the devil incarnate. I wonder how many on here have actually looked into Dominic Cummings background, ideology and qualifications. I think one or two might be surprised if they did. Ruthless yes but his ideology is more in touch with ordinary people than you might think.
