It is simple. 1. Buy cheap players with "potential" on long contracts (3+ years) 2. Obviously get relegated from championship, but these players now have 30/40+ championship games on their CV's. 3. Hopefully have a good League 1 season (That bit is their only real risk in this whole scenario). 4. Sell star players from League 1 campaign for a profit as they will have had a good season plus a fair few championship games to their names. 5. Replace players sold with further cheap players. 6. Keep yo-yoing between the championship and L1 building players up to be sold on to the detriment of the fanbase having their hopes dashed every other year. The long contract is key to this, the first year is spent racking up championship appearances (however poor those appearances were), the second is (hopefully - see point 3) to have a good Leauge 1 campaign. Then on our return to the Championship the players can be sold with 2 years left on their contract + however many championship appearances + just coming off the back of a good season in League 1. This means profit for the club. Getting to the Prem for us is nigh on impossible, so for them to make money they have to do what I have listed above. It is all a con, all this "doing nothing crazy", "year on year improvement" it was just a smokescreen to hide their true agenda listed above. It makes me sick. BOARD OUT.
I'm convinced the recruitment team now consists of our new CEO and a bootleg copy of FIFA 20. The expertise appears to have been poached and they've taken the spreadsheet with them. The decline in signing quality and its timing fits the theory perfectly.
Red Rain explained how costs are reduced when we go down to League One, so the hit is nowhere near £6M. And if your aim is to sell players on, then better for you if they're on League One wages rather than a fatter Championship contract. You can then explain with some justification: "It's not our fault - they offered him more!".
Think they signed all these players hoping 5/6 would turn out decent and that they would be able to compete in championship. They never learnt the lesson from last time we was in championship when we didn’t have enough to stay up then . We needed quality but got quantity
Although long contracts mean greater fees for the recruits who make the grade, the flip side is the club becomes stuck with dross they can't move on. For all those who don't want the club to be like Bury, this is not a risk free approach. The individual pay may be low but by recruiting lots of players on long term contracts the risk is falling revenue, a large player cost and no potential for sales as the multitude of players the club have aren't wanted by other clubs. To think all clubs now are using stats and data to recruit, our 'spreadsheet' needs to have an edge no other club has discovered. Recent performance does not suggest that. Once the saleable assets have gone what will the owners do then?
The players been brought in to be replaced by more potential and upskill our sold players sounded to be me the way to go for our club. With the hope that gradually our players and team would become better. However I think this summer they have over stocked us with kids and the whole thing backfired....its almost like the polar opposite of bringing loads of loans thst we tried a few years ago (lita etc), which also backfired. Our board are all about the money, the long term plan smoke screen and mirrors.....just ask Nice..
Relegated championship clubs are not nailed on promotion certs from league one the following season. These owners are playing roulette with the club.
Very true JT, we had a very good coach last time out......hopefully that may apply again but i do think that our board are about the cash and success on the field is a very poor second. I guess while ever they are in charge we have to get used to it, however we can voice our displeasure on here......which helps (well it does me!!)
So what will we get for- Woodrow Chaplin Mowatt Brown Wilks Mcgeehan Can someone give me a realistic figure. Enough to offset the income loss from championship to league 1? (£6million) Then we try are repeat it all over again.
Oh it’s got an edge alright, trouble is it’s covered in after Conway wiped his fat arse in it. Buying loads of foreign players will now hinder our club significantly as we will surely get less back for them when they are sold. This is the opposite of how the plan is meant to work. By straying away from the English player market these owners have dropped yet another massive ballak for me. All our previous young players profits have come from English prospects. Just adds to the tag of Conway et al. not having a clue what they are doing. The sooner they are gone the better.
Exactly and that’s why Sabre’s theory falls down because unless they are incredibly naive and confident it is too big a gamble for smart money men to make.
I'm sorry, I just don't see that. Why would business people intentionally sabotage their own business to the tune of £6+m p.a. and thereby reduce their ability to run the business at a profit in the future. I just don't see the conspiracy theory behind this. Inept - yes, incompetent - yes, bumbling - yes, arrogant - possibly because there's no evidence they are willing to listen or learn from their mistakes. And asleep at the wheel because despite they ignored (or failed to act fully enough) to requests from the last two managers they have employed to run the football side of the club. But none of it intentionally imo.
