Apparently you can make calls on your mobile whilst stood at red lights ( well this police officer seems to think so ) And the police wonder why the public don’t trust them This video is definitely worth a watch
I haven't watched the video. But using a phone while driving is against the law, regardless of what's in the video.
I don't for one minute think he should have done what he did as he was leaving himself open to criticism but the car has to be moving for the offence I believe. If it is drink driving then you could have the engine off but keys in ignition and be done for it. I think this is what the guy filming is confusing it with. It is wrong IMO but probably not illegal. Im sure traffic officers wouldve had a word if member of public though, having worked with them before. Double standards.
The police officer states you can legally take or make a phone call whilst at red lights ? Long has you have finished the call before you pull away ? That’s rubbish and the officer knows that, but won’t admit he was in the wrong
what about the cars that are geared up to put your phone through the radio ? Also these bluetooth gadgets. Personally I hate mobile phones. We have one on both of our cars but they are in the glove box and switched off, they are used in case of breakdown/accident/traffic delay.
I agree I set my phone to drive mode Soon as I enter the car my phones recognises I’m driving and won’t ring or allow me to call anyone Just not worth it
Police officer states car has to be in propulsion to be an offence. If they suspected when lights went green car would continue on call then they'd stop and advise. If you can find some legislation that proves he is wrong post it here mate.
As I have said theyre legal as it stands. If youre seen to be overly distracted by it whilst driving though you can be done for driving without due care.
It's legal to play music from your phone in the car, if that's what you're saying... Why wouldn't it be?!? It's also legal to send messages etc. through voice recognition with Apple car play etc. I'm not sure why you would hate mobile phones, to be honest. They have added so much to the world, whether you want to admit that or not.
Not according to the officer it isnt- again provide evidence if youre saying thats not true. He says has to be moving.
According to RAC you have to be safely parked for it to not be an offence so you are correct- someone at lights would be committing an offence. Could argue they were not safely parked either. Sorry guys, should've known not to trust them!
The law is clear on when you can use a hand-held device behind the wheel. It is only legal if you are safely parked – and this does not include waiting in traffic or stationary at the traffic lights. The law also includes a proviso for emergencies: you are allowed to make 999 or 112 calls on a hand-held device while driving, but only if it’s not otherwise safe to stop.
