Of a club pushing for promotion to the Premier league and your manager/recruitment team had been trying to convince you to stump up the cash to buy Woodrow, believing he'd get enough goals out of nothing between now and the end of the season to turn 4 or 5 draws into victories, would the goal yesterday do it?
Leeds will take a punt on him I'm sure. They may have other targets right now but come the end of the window if they haven't got them they will be waving their chequebook in our direction.
The one issue with Woodrow is that he is slow. He has no pace whatsoever, same with Mowatt & Bahre! The best 3 players in our club, but a yard off the pace! If these 3 had pace they wouldn’t be here!!
Why would Leeds want him? He’s not good enough for the Premier League and probably won’t be for a good few years if ever, they should be buying with a view of being in there next season. Any of the teams from Fulham to SW, I could understand as a push to get them over the line but not either of the top two.
IF he gets the goils they sell him or loan him out when they reach the Premiership. They play good enough football to get them up but they are lacking a goal scorer. Cauley is that.
But surely you would buy a player with the quality for both leagues not 6 months. If they bought him in Jan and then tried to see him in the Summer they would lose a lot of money on the deal
That doesn't really matter. They'd happily pay 5m for an extra couple of points at this stage even if they just have to write him off and sell him in the summer
Yeah I get that but as I said to RH, why not just get someone better? It’s not like they can’t afford it.
Not necessarily if he carries on scoring for the rest of his season. A lot of championship teams would splash the cash thinking he could get them promoted too,
its simple enough really. stepping stones player A is bought to get them out of this division. Players B is then bought once they are there. they wont bother about losing a few quid in the process.
They are looking for someone better but if that falls through desperate times could make them look to Cauley.
The difference being Leeds would be buying in desperation, where as clubs would, know they want him gone as not good enough, that devalues him or leaves him in the reserves. I’d be willing to put money on it that he doesn’t go to Leeds
Winnall didn’t have any pace but he knew where the net was if you lack pace you normall have the knack to get into the positions needed
The same reason West Ham took Vaz Te. Concentrate on the here and now by signing a proven championship goal scorer to get you the hundreds of millions premiership riches. If you do not get promoted you have a striker who can get you up next season. If you go up and they keep scoring you have even more of a bargain. If you get promoted and they aren't good enough you will still make a profit on your outlay on loan fees or selling them.
I get Vaz Te as an example but it was different because West Ham weren’t in the top two and didn’t look like a cut above the rest in the league, he also looked like a player who could cut in the Premier too. Like I said if it was team between Fulham & SW in the league then I would agree.
