He did well to get in front of his marker for his goal, but John Stones had the measure of
him throughout the game. Pope would not get into double figures if he played in the
    Premiership.

Say what you like about Pep. He treats all opposition with respect.

I think its brilliant Pope scored. Could well be one of the highlights of his career. Stones will have forgot about it by next week.
I think Pope makes a decent point about Stones and Pep seems to agree too, hence why he is regularly warming the bench these days with a midfielder regularly chosen ahead of him in defence.

He didn’t get much change from Stones. His marker, that he lost for his goal was a 17 year old.

I don’t understand the coverage this is getting on social media. He’s a first class helmet.

Stones is a fantastic player who's had injury problems and suffered from a drop in form - some of which is related to his personal life (in my opinion). Hes still an outstanding player who will return to his best form and regain his England place.

Because it's funny. Lower league player thinks Stones is slightly overrated. Makes joke that he would score 40 a season if he played agaisnt him every week.
They draw them in the cup, Stones plays (as his not first choice) and said player scores.
Stones should be taking it in good humour.
Pope in his original Tweet was at pains to post out he knows Stones is a class player and his a lower league player.

The myth keeps getting repeated that Pep doesn’t rate Stones or that he isn’t first choice.

The truth is of the 4 seasons Pep’s been in charge Stones has started as first choice in them all until he got injured. That’s his issue. He simply can’t stay fit.

A poster above refers to him been benched for a midfielder but that’s not really true, what happened was he came back from injury & Pep was only playing him once a week to try & bring him back gradually so he’d start at the weekend & then be on the bench midweek but unfortunately he broke injured down again & the Port Vale game was his first game back.

Its a massive shame but I don’t know what he can do, he doesn’t carry excess weight or muscle it just seems to be bad luck that his body keeps breaking down. Him & Laporte were incredible together first half of last season & although they both get a lot of bizarre abuse Stones & Otamendi were the first choice pairing when City set the record points total the season before.

Was really excited by the prospect of Stones & Gomez for England as well but both need to prove their fitness or they’ll be behind Maguire & any other decent English defender playing every week.
