Stendel and Winkler both commented that Brad Potts was being shoe-horned into the team. The defence that were sold were all offered new deals and wanted to leave. I'm all for bashing the board but don't feel it's correct in this instance.
Well actions speak louder than words so as I said we shall see come end of January as it all pans out. Dont get me wrong i hope we keep Woodrow, Mowatt etc but I don't trust this board. I hope they prove me wrong.
The last time we were in this predicament this board tried their best to strengthen. They brought in Moore, Mcburnie, Knasmullner, Mills and Pinillos. I don't doubt for one second that they want to keep the club in the Championship. Their methods might be questionable but the sentiment isn't from me anyway.
It’ll be a real watershed for the club and demonstrate the owners long term intent. It’s patently obvious that the defence needs bolstering, if we can do it without selling our prime players that will show, to me at least, that there is a serious hand at the tiller.
If we start selling players to our competitors at the bottom end of the table then that will show without a doubt what our owners' intentions are. Remember Winnall, was sold for peanuts to a rival who then didn't play him but it weakened our threat to them.
Would make sense to loan a couple of championship experienced players who we may be able to sign should we stay up. Matty James made a big difference to us in 16/17 under Hecky. He only played 2 premier league games last season and is not in their squad this. I would definitely look to bring him in, unless he is injured of course.
Is that too good to be true......team just lacking leadership at time and this would be an ideal solution
Don't see where Matty James would fit in unless we dropped Diaby for Halme and Anderson for Long. Going forward i'd leave Bahre, Mowatt and Woodrow in.
Cant remember them saying that, I remember stendel saying he didnt want potts to leave after he went. At the time potts was our biggest creator and scorer of goals from midfield. We were lucky Jacob brown stepped up. As for selling both center halfs yes they refused deals but we paid 350k for lindsay and 500k plus add ons for pinnock I'm sure if we had kept them until this window we could have made a profit on those figures and we would have conceded alot less goals. Selling them was a gamble if we go down it wont have paid off.
We are bound to get injuries and suspensions so either Halme or Diaby would have to miss out and it would be down to who claims the shirt. I think Anderson has improved of late but we would benefit from having someone like Long at the back. I agree with you, that trio need to remain in front of them with Thomas pushing them hard for a place
