Good. Obnoxious amounts of money is ruining football. I only wish some premiership clubs would implode.
Glad that Barnsley are committed to being a sustainable club. Living within your means is a laudable aim in such a crazy world.
Maybe Conway and co are waiting for the inevitable crash to come. Just hope it happens before we're in the National League.
Thank goodness Sheffield Wednesday have been fair and cut their cloth accordingly. Chansiri thinks he has saved their bacon.
Confused as the figures show accounts for 2018-2019 season and include Barnsley. Err... were we not Div 1 then so the 0.2m loss reflects that prior to summer sell off? I know accounts are always published in arrears but for promoted/relegated sides like us the figures are a little misleading are they not?
Helps when you sell your stadium to yourself for £60m even though you haven’t actually paid yourself for it yet but still count the money.
With Barnsley Council's involvement with Oakwell am I right in thinking that such a ground-selling-scam-to-oneself can't happen?
Agree, but depends where you end up. Conway sited Ajax as a club to aspire to, but I think he really meant Crewe Alex. I’m all for not taking on LOADS of debt, but the way people are talking about not renewing, there is a real danger that selling players will only cover losses and not bring in any better than we’ve already got. Next 18 months is massive for the owners, and may even decide whether they stay or put the club up for sale.
Wigan owner putting 250k a week in out his own pocket and felt the need to still whack a few million our way for Moore. How the heck did he pass a fit and proper person test.
No one is denying that we would be stupid to spend silly money. It's also stupid to do not do the one thing that the manager that got you promoted, fans and all the football pundits I've read or heard have said is necessary to have any chance of staying up.
It's simple innit? To compete in a higher league, you need better players. Well, one would think so...
This isn’t new news. Every time someone says ‘ good old Brentford, living within their means and doing really well’ , I have to laugh as they are so deep in debt. Conway isn’t getting slagged off for not wanting to put the club in debt, he maybe thinks so, listening to his interview. Conway is getting stick for the clubs transfer dealings and our worse start to a season in the clubs history. Some of the content of said interview didn’t help him.
