...just to balance the constant media negativity https://www.politico.eu/article/brexit-britain-finest-hour-united-kingdom-remain-eu/ Bit OTT on the optimism but that is counter to the excessive pessimism norm.
A bit lacking in any data to back up the argument ... could almost be summarised as 'they're [EU] forgetting the spirit of the the blitz'. don't think anyone is saying that we will not survive Brexit ... we will, but we will be diminished by it. The article talks about the EU being protectionist as if that is a bad thing. It isn't ... a totally de-regulated economy results in, amongst other things, zero hour contracts, less protections for workers and reduced standards. Some people will benefit greatly from Brexit ... just not the majority of people that voted for it.
Far too optimistic. In a global market, it doesn't explain how the UK can complete on services with India, or manufacturing with China or Taiwan, without significant pay cuts to the work force - or significant job losses. I am good at my job, and (from experience) know I can do the work better than 1.5-2 Indian colleagues. However, when they are paid 1/3 of what I am, companies will just pay for 2 in India and I'm out of a job. Within the EU, English speaking countries can base themselves in Ireland, which currently has significantly lower public spending to GDP (25% vs 40%) than the UK and have access to the Single Market. With significant paycuts or companies leaving, the tax take falls and makes the NHS, benefits, etc unsupportable.
