Looking back over our results we've lost by one goal on four occasions, and drawn on six occasions. If we had either scored just one more or conceded just one less in half of those games, we'd be out of the relegation zone. So although we've been on an horrific run perhaps we're not all that far off, eg few tweaks not major overhaul. Thoughts?
Most games ive allways thought we played ok its just silly mistakes.. Defence needs some work on it, think we are fine going forward, just need a bit o luck aswell
If we’d won or drawn games we’ve lost we’d be higher in the league? I don’t believe you! Anyway, who is to say that the fine margins as you perceive it wasn’t superior teams seeing out a win, which has been my experience.
Personally I've thought for a few weeks that we're a gnats bollock away from getting a win and gaining some impetus and momentum. despite the unsurprising doom and gloom on here I think we have a good group of talented young lads.......and they're all playing for the shirt. I agree that we could do with maybe three more players with experience....a centre half, a midfielder and a KM type CF but other than that, we have the makings of a good squad. agree with your assessment.
I definitely think we do need some additional quality and experience, but maybe not 5 or 6 players. Maybe 3 could do it. The spine of our team was solid last season, we need that sort of presence again.
The margins though explained purely as if we scored one more can equally be argued the same for the opposition. for me what i see is the margins exist between inexperience vs experience, full concentration vs lack of concentration, balance in quality, mistake vs no mistakes. We can work on some in training and if the quality is there then the players and team will improve. However it has to be an improvement capable of beating the next team who also look to improve through the season too. I think one factor not spoken about too much is momentum which we seemed to lose when we decided to rebuild in the summer and replaced a settled spine with a host of new players.
On Saturday, when we were zipping about and moving the ball quickly, I commented to my mate that it's a shame we haven't more points for our efforts, because we do play some decent stuff at times, but lose for the obvious reasons. It is fine margins, but it's too many in too many games.
Start playing every game as it comes and stop looking at the league table. One win means jack in the grand scheme of things if it's not followed up by another cluster of good results. We need three wins before January to even have a sniff.
Tbh Hull.were poor. However we have played better against better teams. I'd be more worried if we were failing to create chances BUT Cardiff will be tough . I'm annoyed we did nt capitalise against the teams at the bottom around us, those are the games that will make the difference Still, nothings decided yet and hopefully now we've got the win it's a monkey off our backs!
If we're going to stay up we'll have to win one in two until the end of the season. I expect more high scoring games. We're still 5 points adrift and have to go out and beat teams now. I can see us getting some tonkings but also beating a few teams we don't expect to.
I posted last season that one of the reasons for the high number of clean sheets we kept was the poor standard of finishing in league 1. I also said next season in the Championship, they won't miss. I'd like to admit I was a bit wrong on that because I think we've got to acknowledge that in certain games this season, if the opposition hadn't been so profligate with chances, we'd have needed an abacus to count the goals conceded. On paper, the 'lost by the odd goal' comment looks defendable, but I think when we look back at some of the games, (last 20 minutes at Middlesbrough for instance) we've been off it defensively by quite a distance and could have got slaughtered.
I reckon that if we could have scored more goals than the opposition in most of our games, we wouldn't be in this predicament. Specialist subject: the bleeding obvious.
But just as the OP mentioned fine margins, you can't look at the goals missed by the opposition, if you also don't look at the goals missed by BFC. We have often had more shots, on and off target, than our opposition.
