I'd forgotten what a victory felt like! But the lads thoroughly deserved it against in-form opposition. Everyone played their part, with Alex Mowatt (for me) being simply superb. Our three goals were all classy, well taken efforts. I'm not daft enough to claim today will be a season changer, I'm just going to enjoy this feeling for as long as I can. Well done, lads, and thank you.
I agree, like many others I was nervous and not expecting much today, but wow, what a performance! Three great goals and a couple of near misses too. Well done to all the lads, but a special mention today for Mike Bähre. This lad gets a lot of stick, sometimes deserved, but not today. He was class, all over the pitch, and that goal? What a finish! Well played lad. At long last a Saturday evening to enjoy!
Not been at the game, was driving back from Cemaes in Anglesey, listening on iFollow on the way back. Have now seen the goals, but that is it. For me at the start of the season Bahre was the linchpin that was going to get us ticking, but hasn't produced at all this season. If he can replicate this on a regular basis, with Mowatt and Woodrow & we keep the latter two in January the season may not yet be over. Dropping Cavare for Jordan Williams also looks a good move. Cavare is great pushing forward at times, but gives silly balls away & ends up out of position too often. What I saw of Jordan last season is he isn't the finished article, but is better with distribution & holding the line, which I think is more important. As I say, I wasn't there, so maybe I shouldn't comment... just thoughts. Delighted we got that crucial win & did it at Oakwell for our long suffering fans.
Got back to the car after the match, checked the rear view mirror and saw something I'd not seen for months. A smile. A thoroughly deserved win and it was nice to see us maintain a performance for pretty much the full 90 mins. I had Halme as my man of the match, but Chaplin, Mowatt, Bahre and Ben Williams were excellent too. A long road remains ahead, I just hope we can get a little bit of belief from today, on and off the pitch. Win our next two home games, which is a big ask given the previous results, and we could be back in the scrap again.
Bahre also gave a very honest interview to Radio Sheffield after the game too. Spoke about needing to feel what a victory was like again, a gave a genuine acknowledgement of the fans. I rate him highly, he's flattered to deceive too often, but he was a joy to watch today. Some of his control was stunning, and a great goal.
Couldn't get to the game today. Will enjoy Quest tonight for a change. Well played boys. https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/teams/barnsley/11874642/barnsley-3-1-hull
I've not seen many players over 40 years with better control. He took one high ball out of the sky second half like Bergkamp in his pomp.
