Trevor Aylott is 62 today. He's one of the best target men I've ever seen play for Barnsley. In fact, in my opinion, he's second only to Ashley Ward. Happy Birthday, Trev and thank you for all those wonderful memories.
Big Trevor left Barnsley the season after his second spell before I started supporting the Reds, but I heard about how good he was from my mate at work, who never used to tire of talking about the exploits of Mick McCarthy, Ian Banks, Trevor Aylott etc and his all time favourite Ronnie Glavin. Always regret not being able to see those lads wearing the famous Red, but didn't re-locate to the area until 1987 which was of course during Allan Clarkes tenure as Manager.
Happy Birthday Big T. Thanks for the memories. Great times. Wish we had someone who could do that kind of job for us now.
Colossus of a centre forward. Heart like a lion and no little skill either. My favourite ever BFC centre forward. Happy Birthday Trev.
Can remember being crammed on the open corner terrace between the brewery stand and ponty end as he rose to crash home that header in the league cup tie v Man.City in 1981, just one of many goals he scored for us, happy birthday big Trev
Great player in his day. Always like it when he does commentaries of our games. He's clearly a Chelsea fan, but seems to have a lot of time for our club & town.
Many happy returns Trev. Great partnership with Derek Parker, ammunition supplied by Barrowclough, Banks and Glavin. What a team.
We've been very lucky to have had some players that possibly played their best football with us, haven't we?, and not just one or two either. . . . and even if it wasn't their best football, it was certainly of a high enough standard for us never to forget their time with us. I'd give my right arm to have some of that quality right now. A big Mick organising defence, a Redders driving us from midfield, and a Aylott and Hendrie partnership up top. Happy birthday Trevor, may you get double fare money for going south of the river.
Aye,I was there annall. If memory serves there were about 33,700 of us there and it cost me £1.70 to get in. Remember thumping Brighton 4-1 in that same cup run and McCarthy scoring a cracking header direct from a corner. Aylott chipped keeper from about 40 yards out on the wing as well. Happy days
That goal he chipped the keeper from the left touchline and near half way...remember it to this day....except was it Brighton or Swansea in that League Cup run???
That season I think we had top division opposition al way through to the Quarters where we lost to Liverpool who if memory serves had three of the home nations captains plus the RoI captain . That was some feat from some team .
Yes I was right just found team sheet . Republic of Ireland captain, Wales captain , Scottish Captain and Zimbabwe captain https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/Game/1248
A tip for Reds fans. If you ever meet Joe Corrigan, don't mention Trevor Aylott. I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it.
Actually it was from the Dove Inn beer garden after he’d asked banger to play keeps up while he came back from buying a round . Banger took a shot and it ended up in the beer garden so big Trev decided to chip the keeper as the barman hadn’t yet given him his change .
Damn , Yes it was and he put the beers on McCarthys tab , there was hell on at final whistle when Macca got his bill .
