Further to Tyketical Masterstroke's tongue in cheek post, how about we remember some of the excellent defenders we've had. I'll start. Central defenders first..... Eric Winstanley Pat Howard Paddy Greenwood Larry May Macca Ian Evans Arjan De Zeeuw Paul Futcher Steve Davis Gary Fleming Fozzie Chris Morgan (is he allowed?) Gerry Taggart Mick Pickering Who am I missing?
Mark Smith Carl Tiler Alfie Mawson Marc Roberts I'd even have an Adie Moses, a Jason Shackell, a Malcolm Shotton… even a Paul McGugan
Think it would be a shorter list if you said which ones you wouldnt want back to be fair. Most of the ones I have seen over the years would walk straight into our current back 4 - though there are a few exceptions ( wiseman Kennedy el Haimour etc) I
Bobby Hassell, John Stones, Mason Holgate, Alfie Mawson. If we class RB/LB, Trippier played in one of those if I'm right?
Great shout, he was excellent throughout our promotion season. I think him and Ian Banks (plus Alan Little a bit less accurately and Dominic Werling a lot less accurately) struck the ball harder than anyone else I've seen over the years.
Paul Futcher, Mick McCarty, Ian Evans, Arjan de Zeeuw and just for the entertainment.....Mal Shotton. Not sure big Mal would play much these days
Did you ever see the Paul McGugan warm up with his thunderous shooting? And his 37 yard daisy cutter, think it was against Leicester (3-0 I think)
