If he wants to play that formation then that does look a lot more balanced than yesterday's 11.

I'd play Sam fielding at the back. If we're going to play kids we may as well try new ones

Looks ok, but got doubts about Cavare at the back. I'd rather see Simoes or Oduour on the bench ahead of Thiam though...

Surely we need to play a settled defence now as much as possible?

I can see that argument but for me that's akin to staying in an unhappy relationship just because you're used to each other.

I would go for a settled defence but it would be unpopular because I'd honestly use the settled defence from the under 23s

So would I. I have no idea who plays in defence for our under 23s or if they're any good but if they've come through the Barnsley youth system they'll at least know where to stand and that's a massive improvement on what we've got right now.

Why is it ridiculous the current first team defence gift at least 2 goals per game to the opposition. I have no idea if our U23 defence would cope at this level but for sure the current lot can’t.

Leeds u23s put 2 past them last game. How many would Leeds first team? I understand the team is underperforming and disappointing but this is objectively a ridiculous sentiment.
If you don’t understand the difference in quality and physical requirements between u23s and a championship first team squad I’m not sure what I can say you you.

Why are you always so hostile and aggressive? It's Sunday morning, go for a walk, take it easy :)

You're aware the defence we currently select is eligible for the under 23s?

Of course I understand the difference but being U23 doesn’t make you not good enough for men’s football. They probably aren’t good enough but collectively they must have a better understanding of positional play than the current defence. Who are all U23 anyway.

If we’ve got not young lads coming through that are better than Sibbick, Anderson and Williams currently are then there needs to be a serious look into what the academy is producing. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen our defence look so devoid of positional awareness and defensive basics that it’s frightening.

    Anyway, team:

Radlinger (although I’d argue Colins has been better)
    Cavare
    Halme
    Diaby
    Pinnilos
    Dougall
    Mowatt
    Bahre
    Thomas
    Chaplin
    Woodrow

Isn't there a big difference in quality between the championship and where our current players came from? Why is it that if you pay for them they are allowed to make the step up if you train them they aren't?

Having watched the U23s it really wouldn't work. They are being coached a lot during matches and that just couldn't happen with the noise at a championship game. To me only Simoes stood out, Jack Walton was very vocal in organising at the back ( but that might not necessarily be the way the manager wanted them to be) That's not to say they arent good players but they'd be even more inexperienced.

It has got to the point where we ship goals no matter who we play in defence so I'm past trying to think which back four works best.

So the manager needs to decide how he wants to play, all the squad are fit so based on training and the matches hes watched he needs to make the decisions. I think DS really wanted to play with a footballing goalie who could get it going quickly from the back but unfortunately Radlinger got injured. Struber may well have other ideas but communication is key and having a settled back 3/4/5 will.help with that.

Happy with this although I think the goalies are interchangeable
