All.those saying how hard it would be to renationalise the railways, water etc should bear this in mind when voting for a party hell bent on privatising the NHS. Just saying.
Selling hospitals and nhs land to private companys and leasing it back up and down the country. Trusts like ponty and wakefield are on their arse now. Balfour Beatty built the hospitals and leased them back at a extortionate rate.
PFI Contracts.? Being fair though the privatisation of certain sectors of the NHS e.g catering, cleaning, security etc has been happening for years, so Blair can't be blamed for everything. Whilst my wife was nursing, it was noticeable that cover for sickness and holidays was increasingly being met by nurses/ carers from the private sector and quite a number of those were from the Phillipines. Don't know if that's still the case though.
Blair proved to be a watered down Tory. To be fair though he did reverse what the previous Tory Govts had not done in building hospitals and schools. The British Public will soon have the opportunity to reverse all of the decimation of our public services and stop the private profiteering of our essential services. Let’s hope we take it.
He built hospitals but like I mentioned in ponty and wakefield used the pfi schemes to fund it and now we dont own a brick of these hospitals or the land. I dont see how Jeremy Corbyn or anyone can reverse that.
Using the Lee Conway method of taking credit then David Cameron needs to be blamed for that as he was in office when the hospital was being finished.
I know. It was a dig at our owners trying to take credit for building nice's training facility when the builders were already hard at work long before they bought the club
What they can do for a start is not repeat it. I’m no economist but from I’ve heard the rate for public borrowing has never been so low, or at least not for many years. Whoever gets in Power will borrow. The private profiteering from running and maintaining public services must end.
It was blair who seemed to love the concept and is accountable for crippling the trusts near me and others round the country. I only commented on this thread as it said the tory are hell bent on privatising the nhs (I'm not denying) but the last labour government have already done their bit to privatise it.
Introduced by the Tory government in 1992 *google is your friend* However it has been used both both sides for the last 25 years, and now costs 10 billion a year to pay the companies who bulit the new infrastructure. The companies borrow off the bond markets to finance the building, government pays them a sum to maintain etc, however it is cheaper for the government to borrow directly themselves! The real reason this scheme was introduced? The Tories viewed private companies as being more efficient than a nationalised industry and so would be better at cost and labour management. They awarded hundreds of millions of pounds to companies like Carillion on this basis. That went well didn't it? Whichever colour you vote I think the this system needs shutting down Life and work necessitities should never be run by profit motivated companies, such as, in no particular order Water Electricity Gas Transport Health The one exception is food, competition really does drive down prices, unlike the others I have mentioned
The simple question is... "Is the NHS free at point of access" And the answer is yes. Large parts of the NHS is supplied by private companies already... Both UK and overseas based...
It is and I worked at one of the companies that’s got it’s hands on some of the NHS as well as a lot of other public sector services for both central and local governments until about a year ago, and trust me they’re anything but efficient. They might be cheap but in my experience that was down to cost cutting rather than proper efficiency savings
Also, poor and inadequate provision/ service being rewarded with further and more lucrative contracts
Had to use Barnsley hospital quite a lot in last few years and can give nothing but praise to the staff and the hospital it’s self (just a personal opinion on my experience with the N.H.S)
The Tories are part financed by private health companies, they are not doing this for the good of their health. There are few definites in politics but one is that the NHS is always better looked after by Labour governments. If you see NHS as a priority, you know how to vote.
