I know there is a lot of doom and gloom out there but on the balance of the last 4 performances I don't get it. Yes, we have some work to do but that was a competitive performance that, barring our two gifts, we looked quite comfortable in. We need some wins but this team has fight. If we can address these defensive responsibilities and get concentration right, we'll be OK. Well done team, a point won.
Where are we going to get wins? We’ve played well in spurts most of the season thus the numerous patronising pat on the head interviews from opposition managers. Unfortunately, what we haven’t had is the ability to make that last a whole game and certainly not to see out a win. That is what avoids relegation, not over performing and knackering ourselves to get a point, then giving away 3 pts to the teams that will be in it against us at the end of the season.
I tend to agree to a point, but THE statistic to take note of is: Bristol City 3 shots on goal,,,, 2 goals. That's what we need to do. 23 shots is fine, but you get nothing for shots.
We are bereft of quality all over the park. We only have a limited number of decent players who.i anticipate may be gone in January.
This is the danger, a Rotherham fan in the family told me that’s exactly what they did, played quite well all season but never just had quite enough to win games and get enough points on the board. Effort and persistence keeps games close, but you have to cut out the errors, stop giving the opposition chances and take your chances to win games, you need that extra bit of quality and experience for that .
A decent side would have ripped us apart, we were all over defensively time and time again but they were poor in the final third and never capitalised. Until that defence gets sorted then we won’t win (m)any games at this level.
Absolutely agree, but is it only me that thinks we play absolutely scintillating stuff at (all too brief) times.
There's no sign that we are getting better at defending. We are still making hideous mistakes at the back every game. Our forwards aren't clinical enough in front of goal to out score what our defence concedes, so it's going to be very difficult to win a game.
Have all the posters who used to leak all the transfer gossip suddenly had a letter from Chiens solicitor or was the leak the former manager? They all seem to have gone anti-Barnsley.
The work rate and commitment of the players are all there, mixed with flashes of quality. However, for large parts it feels a little like a lower league club playing cup games against better teams. Loads of endeavour, total commitment but ultimately limited quality and experience when it matters. I’m not sure it’ll be enough to stay up (I bloody hope it is) but I’d never criticise the players when they are clearly giving it everything they’ve got.
I'm meaning that they've all gone against the club the posters who were giving us all the gossip in the summer. They've nothing good to say about the club these days.
Take wigan and fulham out of the equation and look at how many bad goals weve conceded. Defensive mistakes and errors from set plays with bad marking etc. We are giving away 1 or 2 goals every game. Teams dont have to work to beat us they know a mistake will come. Our goals we have to scrap and fight for every one or its a wonder strike. Giving away soft goals and failing to finish fairly easy chances and you end up 2nd bottom of the league. So far there aren't 3 teams who are worse than us so were going down. Will things change in January?? Who knows....
