About 20 years ago, we ran a tag rugby initiative for adults with learning disabilities. We had an invite to Twickenham to do a pre match demonstration prior to the England V Scotland game. I was one of the referees. We had four teams playing, and after they'd played, they went back into the changing rooms. Bill Beaumont came in, and not only made a speech, but went round to each player, shook their hand, and had a chat with them. It wasn't planned, it was just his decision because he wanted to congratulate them all. Top bloke.
Met him when working at Twickers for the 2015 World Cup. Just one of the lads in the big office (even though he was head of RFU at the time). Top bloke, we had a good chat over coffee and he was happy to sign autographs etc.
Looked uneasy sitting down when the ex emperor was standing up beside him. Looked like a protocol meltdown.
