What's amazing about this is... That about 2/3 of families have no dependant children Of the families that do have children only about 14% have 3 or more kids (I'd imagine much less than 10% for 4 or more kids) Giro's were phased out about 15 years ago You can't get benefit for 3rd and subsequent children since 2017. But like that other bloke on here; I'm sure those 'facts' won't stop you believing what you already 'know'
It’s hilarious to me that people can stand on their pedestals, look down at the 16-17 year olds and confidently say “you know nothing about politics how can you have a vote?” When for the past 3 years the “adult” population have all been a part of a nationwide circus.
No worse than writing off the over 65 voters as fking morons who know nowt. What a load of boll.ocks, it’s the same as any walk of life, sensible and idiots in all categories.
If it was in a manifesto to make this change and that party was voted in power, I'd have no problem. Adding it in as an amendment just so it helps the very party gain more votes I disagree with.
Precisely the point. Arbitrary cut off points. To say 16 year olds cant vote, while say 95 year olds can... all arbitrary. But convenient for the powers that be.
But it's obvious that you need a cut off point somewhere, otherwise infants would be allowed a vote. And in so many other different aspects of life, that cut off point is drawn at 18 because that is deemed to be the point where you stop being an adolescent and become legally an adult. In my opinion, it couldn't be less arbitrary.
But it’s not so obvious is it. At 16 you can gamble but not drink You can have heterosexual sex, get pregnant and marry, but you can’t make or watch porn or have a homosexual relationship. and the age of criminal responsibility is just 10. btw I’m not up for debating the rights or wrongs of those; just illustrating that it’s not ‘obvious’, where the age of consent lies.
it was never illegal 'to be homosexual.' However until 1967 anyone involved in homosexual acts was breaking the law. Homosexual acts between two men over 21 with the exception of the Merchant Navy and Armed Forces were decriminalised in 1967. Present situation -- the age of consent for gay or straight sex is 16.
Ergo, it was illegal to be homosexual. Thankfully things changed, though its taken far too long to pardon those who were criminalised as a result. Alan Turing being a prime example. And there are obviously still parts of society who harp back to "the good old days"
That's like saying its not illegal to live, but its illegal to breathe oxygen. By all intents and purposes, it was illegal to be homosexual and the "treatments" for such "illnesses" were disgusting and repugnant.
I think basically we all know that this business of giving kids the vote is nothing more than desperation from a certain quarter no matter how you try and dress it up. Boit ont other foot this board would be up in arms about it.
As part of the national curriculum, all KS4 pupils in England and Wales take Foundation Citizenship - this is a compulsory course that covers Government in the UK, Parliament, what MPs do, and how voting works (among other stuff). So, most school leavers at 16 will know more about UK politics than the average adult. Some EU citizens can vote already (Irish, Cypriot, Maltese) as can Commonwealth citizens who live here, but EU citizens can't. Neither can non-EU, non-Commonwealth citizens. *Academies don't have to follow the national curriculum.
DT you cant post stuff like that when the resident happy clappers are watching pal. Route 1 to a council house and a life on benefits, we all know that but its another uncomfortable truth denied. There are those in genuine need of help who deserve help. Then there are those who help themselves to the help freely given. Unfortunately those only too willing to dole out our hard earned to the latter wont acknowledge that there’s a distinction. Its all the fault of the tories blah blah fkin blah. Jesus.
What? I can’t post stats from the ONS or facts from DWPs website? what was I thinking? Posting official government information that contradicts the opinion of people who don’t understand the concept of ‘truth’.
