The people in power are once again shifting the blame onto the working class, this time specifically blaming the firefighters who fought the fireball that used to be Grenfell tower for the big loss of life. It wasn’t due to the flammable cladding that was installed in the building to make it less of an eyesore to the posh surrounding areas. It apparently was the firefighters. Once again the blame has been shifted.
I wonder who was the Mayor of London when all the cuts took place to the fire brigade even though he promised there wouldn't be cuts ?
It seems the advice to tenants to stay in their flats (in a blazing tower block) was a main focus of the criticism. That advice does look a tad questionable, would you not think? Also, I am struggling to see where Orgreave fits into this when no lives were lost.
The blame game.....blame the firefighters first then when the rest of the report comes out blaming others higher up people will still remember the first thing they heard....like pick pocketing at Hillsborough and all the arrested miners at Orgreave....all bullsh1t but it stuck with enough.
If the cladding had been to the proper standard then the advice would have been justified . The Orgreave is as the original post shifting the blame .
That advice was based on the design of the building and the fire proof 'cells' that each flat was in effect built as. It didn't take into account he fact that the Tory government had allowed the local Tory council to cover the whole thing in a flammable cladding which acted as a chimney which completely nullified the buildings fire rated design. Sadly the firefighters there that day were not psychics and so were working to the legal plan as per the buildings design and not to the deadly fire friendly design created by the local Tories using the most dangerous materials possible.
And this is how they treat the residents now... And the reaction of former Tory councillor for Barnet to that film....former as he got convicted for assaulting a female and thrown out of the Tory party. Sounds like he's been readmitted as a member now
On the news a few weeks back some residents were using the race card saying that emergency services took longer because of their skin colour and even got Stephen Lawrence's mother involved to fight their corner. **** me.
As well as the advice to stay in the flats, it appears that the lack of planning and specialist training is also being given as a major flaw. The overall blame seems to be aimed at the Fire Brigade Commissioner Dany Cotton, who after the incident during a meeting with MP's said she would not do anything different if such an incident happened again. Subsequent to all discussions she announced her intention to relinquish her £200,000 a year job. No blame has been attached to the brave firefighters who battled to get the fire under control.
Quite so. The leaks suggested that criticism was aimed at the commanders who made crucial decisions rather than the rank and file firefighters, who did as asked. Their decisions look questionable, in addition to all the other factors cited above. We will know more when the full report is published today.
Politics has nothing to do with this. If you worked in the building game, you’d know that. Sadly, like with many things in life, it needs a disaster to highlight and change things.
Agree with you in terms of shifting the blame and the similarity with Hillsborough. Any outcome which lets the Borough Council off its responsibility to ensure the safety of its residents would be at risk of the accusation of corruption. Laud bore the blame for the Titanic tragedy. The press made it look fair, but it really was White Star covering their own backs. When you have all the aces in your hand, how easy it is to come squeaky clean out of something for which you may be blameworthy. If this is the main drift of the report, I think that it will lack credibility. How strange that this part was leaked to the press just before release. What has this country come to in terms of transparency and accountability?
Apartment blocks/flats are designed like that so fires can be contained between doots/floors. I cant comment on Grenfell as i dont have the evidence but post fire, a number of other councils in London did inspections of their own blocks and found the stairwells to be covered in peoples belongings and multiple firedoors missing.
