Aberdare - you'll be pleasantly surprised - lots to see and do there - known as the 'Jewel of the Valleys' - Merthyr not so brilliant but the people of both towns and all the Welsh Valleys are welcoming and friendly - but N. B. - MAKE IT KNOWN YOU'RE FROM THE NORTH OF ENGLAND. (Southerners associated with Tories who have never done the Welsh valleys any favours!) If you're into cemeteries the one at Aberfan is impressive (1966 mining disaster) and it's only a few miles from Merthyr. Enjoy - and I've not taken umbrage at your suggestion that may not be safe in South Wales...…..
Haha, apologies, and thank you. It's a flying visit. Not getting to Aberdare until early evening Friday, so might try to find a pub to watch the game on. Won't have time for cemeteries. Merthyr involves a trip to the football ground, mainly, although afterwards, who knows.
What are you going to Wales for? Tredegar/Ebbw Vale not far from Merthyr - if you're driving down you'll head for Abergavenney (via Ross on Wye quickest route ) then the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road to Tredegar.
Yes...ironically another area heavily regenerated with Objective One EU funding. The replacement funding plan after Brexit will favour North and Mid Wales instead.
Thanks, my friend is driving us, and has family down there. I'm playing in this. So after the game, I may have some free time to take in the sights.
