Went to see my dad in Derbyshire via Sheff. Blunts game just let out. There are more Arsenal fans on the train than Sheff Utd fans (of who you’d think there would be plenty based in Chapeltown etc). How does that work? They’re travelling north Lots of them with northern accents too. Why would you want to support a club from hundreds of miles away? Just don’t get it
For a whole generation who didn’t support their local club it was Man Utd or Arsenal in the Fergie / Wenger years. I went to school with loads of Arsenal fans
Most big clubs are the same. A lot of the away travel is from the area where they are playing. Play up North and get a lot of Northeners coming. You get a right mix at times.
It's a free country so anyone allowed to support who they wish. But I wonder how many times a season do those fans actually see their team play. TV supporters which can't be much fun. As said above, glory hunters.
Bit harsh. Better than nothing. Been a Barnsley supporter all my life but distance/cost means I am reduced to watching matches on iFollow except for the annual (at best) visit to UK where I try to get to Oakwell for a match. There are many like me 'in the same boat' some who post on here.
Not harsh at all Tekky. Plenty of rangers and celtic fans turn up at the pub to shout their support when that lot are on the telly. And I know for a fact very few have ever been to Glasgow to follow their so called heroes. Also I was in Barnsley and witnessed man Utd TV fans show their support in chennels. TV fans who are lost to the game.
