I would personally lower the drink driving limit - how many think they are ok with one or two? - and alcohol affects people in different ways. I'm 6'2" and 15 stone and *could* probably drink more than a 5' 5 stone woman. There is no need or reason for anyone to drink alcohol and then drive. Saying that, it is not possible to reduce the limit to zero as some people suffer from a condition where the body manufactures alcohol!
Depending on how much you have drank the night before you can still fail a test at 6 the next day. It’s hardly driving pissed. Suppose you don’t drive for 24 hours after to make sure ( though that may not be long enough if you’ve had 10 pints of Stella)
If you are above the drink drive limit then technically you are driving pissed. 10 stellas for your example would still be sloshing round your system 12 plus hours later... At the end of the day you are driving a high powered lump of metal and if you dont have your facilities in order you put others at risk..
After 10 Stella’s some people would still be over the limit 24-30 hours later. More people get caught the next day than during their session. I don’t think people are being stupid they just don’t know this. I do agree anyone getting in a car knowingly over the limit are stupid and should be locked up. But a lot of people don’t realise how long it takes to leave the system
Stella is currently 4% in the UK, so about 2.5 units per pint. It takes roughly 1 hour per unit, so 10 pints of Stella will take about 1 day to clear the body depending on body size, metabolism, liver function, etc. https://www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/lifestyle/how-long-does-alcohol-stay-in-your-blood/ If you drink 10 pints of Stella on Saturday night, you are not sober enough to drive until Monday morning.
