They really need sitting down and telling how they’ve messed up here. The fans saw this unfolding over the summer: they know nothing about the English game and they’ve made blatant errors. Selling Pinnock after selling Lindsay finished us. Moore was another nail in the coffin. They don’t understand this because they don’t know what they’re doing. Genuinely killing the club - I for one have never given less of a s*** about us getting battered. Feel bad for Stendel - great guy and manager, been done over by these clowns.
I havent any major issue with player sales. It's the inexperienced and inadequate replacements that have pished me off. And the promise of all player sale funds being reinvested back into signing players. By my calculations there is a few million unaccounted for.
They know exactly what they're doing. Buying for peanuts and selling for millions. And they're very very good at it. It's not about football, that's the side show.
This. Being a yoyo club between L1 and the championship with a good recruitment system is probably the best low risk way to make a profit as a football club. As we have seen twice, league 1 is a great place to turn raw youth with potential into a player with real saleable value. We're being shown this season that recruiting straight into the championship with the amounts we're willing to spend just doesn't work. We just aren't willing to pay the sums required to sign young players who are likely to be up to championship standard straight away. So instead we sign players of the same standard as we probably would have signed in L1, and then unless we get really lucky we end up getting relegated. Then those players have a chance to build and develop in L1, we hopefully get promoted, they only have a year or 2 left on their contracts and then we sell them off. It's a cycle which will endlessly repeat. To break out of it we would have to get extremely lucky with one batch of signings or the owners would have to spend sums which they clearly aren't willing to do. We'll just bob between the 2 leagues whilst they skim the profit off the top. It's ******* infuriating because the money is definitely there, but to them the club is just numbers on a spreadsheet and they won't jeopardise the profit margins.
I'm not sure that's the aim. They want to stay up but too rigidly follow the formula because they don't understand the league. I don't think they're malicious, they just don't understand the English game.
I think in the next home game they will get an understanding of just how the fan base feel. Who I do feel for now is the next guy or the temporary manager who takes over the reigns. I feel there’s going to be a lot of loving for Mr Stendel from the terraces.
Bang on the money for me. The players leaving I totally understand and to some extent the club couldn’t do anything. It’s the lack of experienced heads signed that’s cost us. And the board knew this from last time. So in that regard, it’s poor business acumen. You should always learn from your mistakes not repeat them!
Partly agree - it’s not intentional. But I partly disagree, as the same board experienced this 2 seasons ago, so they do understand the league and haven’t learnt from the mistake last time.
It's not poor business acumen. They don't care about results. They're buying players with resale value and how we perform this season has no bearing on that. It's brilliant business acumen. They've bought young players who will improve and make money. Where's the poor business acumen in that? There's no profit to be made by spending money to keep us in the Championship. That's how you lose money.
Disagree. There’s a £6m deficit by being relegated straight away. Financially far better to stay up and also easier for attracting better players (for higher resale values). They made the same mistake twice - or at least tried to get through to January by winging it. To suggest otherwise is simply bizarre.
This is what I have thought for a while BUT It’s a fairly erratic method of getting returns on your money - it’s sure there would be better way of doing it. I can’t totally understand why they would invest in us , perhaps it’s a tax efficient vehicle in which to do it, i dunno
It’s not the players that’s been sold that’s the problem it’s the players we havnt bought to replace them that’s feked us up.
Yeah we should've replaced better and with experience, but it'd not have been so bad if we'd have staggered those sales. Sell Pinnock in Jan or let him go for a free in order to help stabilise us first
I'm sorry but you're wrong. Players have a huge relegation clause in their contract that accounts for the vast majority of the £6 million deficit between Championship and League 1 turnover. That's just a red herring thrown at fans. We go down and what isn't good enough for the Championship shines in League 1 and we make a generous profit on their sale. There's no way we would have got £4 million for Kieffer Moore had he played in the Championship last season as he would have been anonymous. He would have maybe helped us scrape Championship status but he wouldn't have a prolific scorer. We're about selling players, so dropping down a division so they shine isn't a bad thing.
But until the accounts show them taking money out of the club we don't know that they're benefiting financially do we? If they start handing out £5 million dividends then you're bang on the money, but without that they just own a yoyo club with zero resale value so won't even see a return on their investment. There isn't anything malicious about their ownership that has them wanting us to be relegated. They've just underestimated the Championship and missed out on too many transfer targets (if you believe the rumours).
I get what you’re saying but only looking at Red Rain’s recent posts suggests they’d be making very, very little when all is taken into account. I can’t accept they’d prefer us to be in the third division.
I don't think you're right here Jay. They have relegation clauses, but it doesn't save us £6 million in wages. We had to sell Potts last January to balance the books because the relegation clauses and Bradshaw sale didn't cover enough of it.
