Solskaer at Manure says the young lads lack experience and need to look to older players in team to gain confidence. If not they lose confidence. So tell me who our lads have in team to look to. What a stupid set up
It worked in a lower division and we had the likes of Davies, Pinnock and Moore all 25 or over and with plenty of games under their belt. It was clearly moronic and blinkered for the owners to think selling those established players and replacing them with inexperienced kids would pay dividends in a higher division.
The issue is a mixture of age and games (and the level they played at). The route to signings in previous years was always about experience from game time. So we had players playing 50-150 games in lower leagues but still around 22-24 years old. We now look at our signings and there is a severe lack of meaningful competitive game time, let along equivalent of championship level. We seem to have shifted significantly in the wrong direction and I don't see how we're likely to rectify this mess quickly.
Even when Alan Hansen famously said back in 1995 "you can't win anything with kids " it was actually a load of nonsense give that their squad back then contained Schmeichel Irwin Parker Pallister Bruce May Keane McClair Cantona Sharp and Cole.
None of those three were any good last time we were in the championship and its debatable whether we'd be any better off with them. Id argue that Collins & Radlinger are superior keepers to Davies and Pinnock cant get a game for Brentford. Moore did give us a plan B but hardly set the Division alight last time. We have Cavare & Pinnilos from last season who have the experience but for some reason we're persevering with two kids who don't know what defending is all about. We've also missed Diaby who looks more commanding than Sibbick or Halme who were signed as cover. In fact, the whole back 5 at Preston were reserves in my eyes and when fit I'd play Radlinger, Cavare, Diaby, Anderson, Pinnilos. I don't think we've actually played our strongest team in any game this season although we came close in the Fulham game. We're demonising the board but the team selection is very suspect to me.
Will people please stop saying that pinnock and moore would not have done a job for us because they are doing nothing at their new clubs. How could them 2 and Lindsey have done any worse than the dross we have churned out so far this season.
What everyone seems to be ignoring is the understanding our players had built over a whole 12 months. One of the reasons our defence looks all over the place is because these kids have neither experience of first team football, or, playing together as a collective unit. That includes how defence and midfield interacted and where they would show. Also with Moore, we'd have an outlet. We're so easy to play against because we have no out ball. At least with Moore we knew we could get it up the pitch for a while and reset. Moore only had 16 games and scored 4 goals in a dreadful team with the worst manager in our history. I'm not saying he'd be a £20m forward, but i'd rather have him now as an option rather than Schmidt the invisible, our only other striking option if he can make the bench. I find it quite sad that players who improved last season and gained experience and understanding are just labelled as **** now they've gone. I'd take everyone of our departures compared to what we have at the minute.
All the players you now trying to dismiss would make the current team better. You also contradict your own argument given that Pinnilos and Cavare were poor in the Championship and neither were regulars in L1
I'd say they were first choice in Lg1. Cavare even made the Lg1 team of the season. All a matter of opinion whether we'd be any better with Davies et al but my point is that we could be better if we picked the right team. I know some of these are injured but my first choices would be Radlinger, Cavare, Diaby, Anderson, Pinnilos, Dougall, Mowatt, McGeehan, Wilks, Bahre and Woodrow. The nearest we got to that was Fulham which coincidentally we won.
Cavare was in and out of the team and didn’t feature much at all for the last 2 months. I agree with selecting him as the best of a bad bunch but don’t think he’s any sort of solution. The only players that we have that are currently at a level to play in the Championship are Mowatt and Woodrow. The rest may come good in time but as of now it’s just shuffling bits of 19 different jigsaws together and then trying to complete the puzzle.
But would they have done any better? And how much money did their agents manage to syphon out of Brentford and Wigan.
It’s crazy logic. Winnall, Watkins, Bree, Roberts & MacDonald all did excellent for us in the championship but haven’t done much since leaving us for other championship clubs. It doesn’t mean they aren’t good enough for this level just means it hasn’t worked for them at there new clubs yet. I’m pretty sure Pinnock, Lindsay & Moore would’ve all done well for us playing with Woodrow, Mowatt, Brown, McGeehan, Cavare who they played well with last season.
Great post. It angers me reading some of the nonsense our fans have posted on here in particular relating to Moore. There were loads trying to make out that Stendel was actually in favour of selling Moore & not replacing him as he didn’t suit his style despite him starting nearly every game under Stendel. The idea that Kieffer Moore was poor at championship level last time for us is daft as well. Just watch Oli McBurnie’s goals & his involvement in many of them. Kieffer was so important to the way we played. People forget that without him the goals really dried up even in league one. The only team we blew away without him was Southend whilst with him we hammered several sides & looked a constant goal threat.
No it wasn't that was a lower league and the players had much more 1st team experience tham the current squad have.
