The HC in our current model is irrelevant. Heckingbottom is gone and I don’t want him back. Did he make a better fist (so far) of keeping us up yeah he did. That doesn’t mean I prefer Heckingbottom to Daniel. Both have given me great memories. It’s probably fair to say that Daniel had an easy ride last season given the ability ( at L1 level) of the team he inherited and is struggling this year. When you have inferior players to the opposition it is common sense to play it safe and keep it tight at the back not go gung ho. I was bored by Heckingbottom’s teams but not embarrassed this year we have been embarrassing
Hecky was a great manager for us. Stendel is a great manager for us. As much as I like Hecky I wouldn’t swap him for Daniel - but when Daniel chooses to leave I’d welcome Hecky back with open arms. Both have been put in a difficult situation by the owners of our club.
Let's hope so he is our only hope but he hasn't played since that cold night at the keepmoat. The same night wilks ripped ben William's a new one in the 1st 20 minutes. https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=94145&season_id=150 That's pinnocks appearances including substitute he was 4th choice behind lindsay, McDonald and jackson at the start. He only got a game in December at brentford as jackson was injured and McDonald was never seen after the 3 nil hammering at reading. Hecky rated jackson he has just signed him for hibs. Pinnock only got injured after the Sunderland away game where he broke his toe in training.
Daniel got Heckingbottom’s team promoted... Key injuries in defence during the run in mean your appraisal isn’t quite accurate. Johnson has failed to motivate a very talented squad. Heckingbottom did this and got us promoted. Daniel inherited a fantastic L1 team but managed them well and got us playing exciting football.
Daniel had an easy ride? What players did Hecky have in his side that he inherited? I agree that our gung ho football is probably gonna get us defeats but so is being negative.... We're just not good enough whichever way we play.
Yeah he was coming back from injury when he played initially he was clearly unfit as soon as he was fit he played. Not sure why that’s hard to understand
He didnt though he wasnt injured at the beginning of the season just behind McDonald lindsay and jackson he didnt get injured until after new year
Any manager that inherited the team that Daniel did should have got us promoted anything else would be failure. In L1 Moore has scored 13 goals in 19 appearances. McGeehan, Potts and Moncur has all got into double figures in L1. Bradshaw is a20 goals a season L1 striker who we sold and upgraded. So you have 5 players who can score goals. Add to that Thiam who cost us nearly a million quid. You have a very potent attack. Many weeks we had a substitute who cost more than the entire opposition
I spoke to Nathan Winder at the time in my local, he said Pinnock was clearly talented but needed bulking up. Not ready.
And Johnson has a record of going on winning and losing runs as a manager which continues to this day. A team which included Hourihane, Winnall et al should have walked automatic promotion. Johnson was a truly terrible manager
I very much like Daniel. Loved the way he got us playing in L1. Any HC will struggle with ‘The Plan’ in the Championship. Daniel needs to install pride and make us hard to beat. It’s a very different challenge.
I agree with you JV but Daniel has his way of playing and we need to support that even though it's not getting the results that we want.
Alot of those players hecky loaned out or froze out. I don't think hecky would have got us out of league one with that team far too negative
Results and performances are poor. If we were playing well giving it a really good go and coming up just short regularly then people could get behind that. We aren’t we are poor in all sections of the game and not attacking effectively whilst leaving ourselves open at the back. We need to do the basics and take it from there. No manager should stick to a plan that’s clearly failing. The fake Einstein quote of repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results is the definition of insanity springs to mind.
Impossible to know. He was right to loan them out as most aren’t good enough for the Championship despite being stellar L1 players. He wasn’t negative in the promotion run in or in the first 6 months in the Championship. He believed the only way to be competitive once all the good players had been sold was to keep it tight at the back. He was probably right. L1 with players who are fantastic at that level would have been a different challenge.
I just love Stendel and how we try to play positive football, so I can't throw him under the bus after 10 games. But I do see your point about tightening up.
