I went to Madeira this year and the EU don’t allow them to export their bananas because they are out of spec, only to mainland Portugal. What I saw of the bananas looked ok to me.
You used to be able to get bad bananas cheap from the fruit and veg van. They were great in custard or in cake.
Black scabbard fish and banana is common in Madeira. I suppose they have to find some way to get shut of them.
Tosh! Perfectly put. However, am I the only one who’s sick and tired of hearing about the deaths of British soldiers on missions around the world at the behest of supposed “friends “ across the pond on World policing duties. Would it be such a bad idea for the French, German, Italian and the rest of the EU member countries to take a share of casualties? Well hold that thought because I reckon the EU would tell Uncle Sam to go forth and police the world alone if they think it needs policing. Win win
I've asked this question a few times, but got nothing beyond "If you don't know why, you're an idiot"!, but what exactly is the problem with an EU combined military force? If you take the nuclear deterrent out of the picture - it isn't strictly speaking ours and we can't use it without the American's Okaying it first - having a military is expensive. Big, destructive toys are very, very expensive. We recently bought two air craft carriers - one is at sea, and the other is at port permanently (they alternate). ACCs require support ships, fighter planes, sailors, etc, etc. Operating these is very expensive. Wouldn't it have been better for us (the tax payer) if we had bought one, France had bought one, and the other ships, planes and crew were supplier by other countries? Its the same in all branches of the military - even if our soldiers are head-and-shoulders above the rest (they aren't), then they could train them up to the same standards and that surely would be better for us all in the unlikely event that there is another big war. Combining costs, expertise and working together are a great way to get more bang for your buck.
My mate told me that there will be another war eventually because everyone is skint? He said in times of recession a war gets the economy going again with the rebuild that follows.
The Ukraine is where it will kick off next. I hope we don't get involved because the nutters in charge won't think twice about pressing the button.
Who with? Russia? and we are all dead - nukes galore. China? and we are all dead - nukes galore. USA? - same again. Many of the other larger countries outside the Commonwealth would kick our arses in a land war (Brazil, Indonesia, etc) just by sheer weight of numbers.- even Iran has 5x more soldiers than we have. Anywhere else, and we win (or at worst a long guerrilla war like Vietnam) and end up with increased terrorism. Unless he thinks we should try to fight our NATO colleagues within the EU? Oh, and BTW. Tell your mate if he wants a war he better join the TA and get trained. We really don't want to waste our kids lives on something they didn't ask for.
it was all going well until you missed off all the left wing newspapers and news outlets in your opener. and to accuse anyone of being left wing because of heritage only, not giving credit for their own research whilst claiming you were capable of research is a bit elitist. thats a bit right wing id say
I had them/us in the Saudi and partners box. I am a reservist for 2 more years and I have no desire to fight in the Middle East again for anybody.....
Extremism concerns me. This EU Army nonsense added to this stuff with the Irish border just plays into fanatics hands.
