Terrible weather conditions - and when there are conditions like that it’s not always the best to try and play pretty football.
Sometimes it’s good to have a more direct route to goal.
But we sold that option in the summer - and if ever we needed Kieffer Moore in a match then it was against Brentfud.
And if we had - then with the amount of possession we had in the first 35 minutes then the game should have been put to bed.
For the first 30 minutes I thought we were going to win this one easy.
But we missed another easy chance in the 35 minute and a few seconds later Brentford had there first real venture into Barnsleys half - and scored.
    Barnsley didn’t recover.
    End of game.

You look at the players and we have got some real quality young players.
We all have our own opinions of who is good enough and how isn’t.
IMO - we are short of decent fullbacks.
Cavare looks great going forward but on occasions just loses concentration.
Brentfuds 3rd goal was typical of that.
Mowatt is the playmaker in the team - and as much as Moffat has fans - he often just does not deliver the killing pass. He often receives the ball and dosen't know what to do with it.

Last season Woodrow played better when Moore played - and vice versa.
Woodrow seems lost this season without Moore.
We also have other good players like Chaplin and Wilks that would really benefit from a Trevor Aylott type old fashioned centre forward that can hold the ball up and bring other forwards into play.
Both Brown and Thomas had a poor game because there was no target when they got into good positions.

Selling Moore and not replacing him with a similar type of player has left a huge hole in the strike force.

All in all a very disappointing and frustrating day.
While these owners continue to carry out this recruitment experiment then that’s how it’s going to be.
Other teams - ALL other teams - in this league bring in the best players that they can.
The Barnsley owners have chosen to go down a different route - bringing in young players that can be developed over time into top Championship players.
    This takes time.
In the meantime time us Barnsley supporters have to wait and endure all this.
If Patrick was in charge at the moment then I would be really concerned for the club.
But I’m not that worried - because I don’t think these owners will allow things to drift without taking appropriate actions.
Which means tinkering with the recruitment experiment.
In saying that - we are at the start of the process - the Brentford game could be the start of better things to come.

I've been to Moffat a few times. Its main claim to fame is that the narrowest hotel in the world is there. Allegedly.

I agree with most of your initial summary. Were you referring to the key member of Arab Strap? Great songwriter. No pace in midfield though.

On a serious note I think Brown did OK, but lacking match fitness & Wilks is more development than first team choice for me. Agree Cavare gives the ball away far too much, he was partially responsible for the 2nd & 3rd goals. He is a beast though & just needs to keep it simple at times.

I think Cavare also played a hand in the first as well. Completely awol positionally but he was like that the whole game. Was a disaster defensively.

I thought Cavare could have made life harder for Watkins for the second. It would have been missable under pressure that header.
