Thanks. Big news in the Balliwick is a drag queen led a children's reading session, and the mail plane landed on time today. Edit: Have found this: https://guernseypress.com/news/2019/09/25/supreme-courts-ruling-is-significant-for-guernsey/
Unless I'm missing something (and I could well be) that article doesn't suggest that they're concerned - it says the opposite. That the SC upholds constitutional precedent like this against the wishes of the government makes their situation more secure, and means that any future executive would find it difficult to change.
He's pretty useless so people don't expect much of him. Luckily in my ward the MP is pretty good......
Yes, I read it as they see it as an opportunity to attract rich Brits to a stable country. And prices on the open market start at £400k for a one bedroom flat.
I have just driven past the Amazon warehouse, stuffing huge. It's also one of the main things stuffing the high street. Currently the EU allows it to pay tax at 6.5% on its huge profits as it shifts it's intellectual property profits to Luxembourg. Ever wondered why every online company has s.a.r.l. after its name, that's Luxembourg limited company. Undercuts all the UK based companies, how come Sherman ain't getting angry about that?? It's an EU sponsored off shore haven for big business killing jobs here
Yeah. I'm pretty sure it's a "Corbyn wants to take down tax havens, but he can't touch us after this" flex.
Just read that the Uk might be going to the Courts again over the Benn bill. The bill stipulates that the Uk has to leave the EU with a deal. However, where that falls down is the default position is to leave without a deal. The bill is contradictory and I reckon that's why Boris hasn't resigned and being pretty calm about things.
Yes. And he should sort out the Syrian war, end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and bring Elvis to trial for the Kennedy murder.
You read wrong. It stipulates that we can’t leave with no deal. It’s pretty watertight and likely to get more so over the coming days. It could indeed end up in court, but only if Johnson chooses to act unlawfully again.
If he takes us out without a deal on 31st October, he will be tried and probably found guilty of malpractice in a public office - a criminal offence, with maximum tariff of life. This will then lead to the tort of misfeasance in a public office, where he (and his cabinet) are liable for the financial losses incurred through his actions - *potentially* billions (although in reality he would be declared bankrupt as a result). He has to get a deal through Parliament or get an extension. Those are his options and he hasn't been negotiating.
Makes me think if John Major knew about the potential of this happening why rush through the Benn deal? It's more and more obvious that the Bill was more about delaying Brexit or trying to stop it rather than getting a deal. I dont think voting down everything the government puts forward out of necessity helps either. I'd have let the government have their knees up and looked into things more.
