Why couldn't we wear our home strip at Wigan?

People are well known for only spending what they can afford aren't they. You and me might have restraint, but not everyone does. Kids put pressure on parents to have the latest gear for instance. The home kit shouldn't be changed every season either.

I like the third kit. I would have made quite a good first kit for a season. It's a bit like the modernisation of the classic Shaw Carpets era kit with the stars on.
I never buy replica kits, as it isn't my thing & I'm a bit overweight & they are designed for an athletic frame. I know a lot of people do & have kids and kids do want stuff, so having 3 kits a season does seem a bit of a rip off, but so does most things in football these days. Barnsley are just doing what every other team is doing pretty much.

You're my favourite F1 Team, but what's with all the red? Red cars, red overalls, red hats... You're so out of touch, your fans want a choice, you need to get with the times.
May I suggest that for half the races you all wear blue and paint the cars blue. That'll work. No need to thank me.

There are no other red cars on the grid. Each team has different liveries.
It’s therefore a poor comparison.
Since most of us began watching football there has always been a change strip.
And for many many years now we have had kits that are deemed home and away with occasionally a third.
It’s a necessity that has then been jumped on as something to monetise and is old news.
I remember shirts lasting years not just the one season.
But I also remember Bananarama.

But what he's saying is that Ferrari's identity is red. So is ours.
Yes, there are times we can't wear it. But to do so out of choice? To me it's crazy.
It's a minor point in the great scheme of things but why do companies go to extreme lengths to create brand awareness and identity? I think Cadbury have even trademarked their shade of purple.
I just don't get the move with the times thing. Climate change, equal opportunities etc, etc I'm all for it. Changing out of the historic colours of your club for no reason....it's hardly the same.

No, you still haven't got it. Ferrari don't have red cars etc because it's their allocated colour, it's because it's their brand colour and they will not deviate from it. It would make no sense to do so. It doesn't make any sense for us to do so either.

 

These days I only see us at Oakwell, so it's not a big deal for me, we always play in red and white. I never buy replica shirts and never bought them for my son, mainly cos (a) they're too costly, (b) the quality is variable, and (c) if they want me to walk around advertising Sponsor X then the club should be paying me.

But it does often feel odd when viewing the opposition. It used to be that visiting sides would wear their home kit, unless it clashed. Now, kit wise, visiting teams are nondescript. All yellow, all black, all blue... when none of those colours are the ones I associate with the opposition club (exactly the point being made about us in this thread, but from the other perspective). We'll probably never see Newcastle play here again in black and white stripes, for example, and for me, although it's a minor point, it's a shame. Not one to lose any sleep over, but still...

 

Are you referring to Ferrari in general? Not in F1 terms?
45% of the cars they sell are red.
My good friend has a yellow model.
In F1 it makes no sense because they’re the only team of 10 who are red. Each team has a different colour scheme.
I think I’m bored now anyway.

I know. We could have worn our normal kit but I'm resigned enough to the need to flagrantly try to flog as much merchandise to supporters to understand why we wore the third kit. I could even, at a stretch, be persuaded that they did it as a nod to some fans who have a nostalgic soft spot for the old Shaw Carpets kit.
What I just can't understand is a desire to play ALL our away games in a different colour to our normal home strip.
Anyway, in the great scheme of things, it's not a molehill worth making a mountain out of at the moment.

 

Why didn’t we stick with brown and white stripes? Changing that was the beginning of the end.
