By the way, I'd buy their No 12 in a heartbeat. He was superb. I was pretty impressed with Barnsley yesterday, well organised, physical and played some attractive stuff through midfield at times. All in all what a competent manager should be setting his team up to do away from home in this league. They secured a point, could have grabbed all 3 - wonder if our (current) manger & coaching staff took any notes.......! And on Kieffer Moore 7/10: I thought Moore carried out his role well, to be fair. He won a few aerial duels and managed to knock it down several times, but unfortunately it seems as though we are repeatedly encountering the same issue that several of you guys have highlighted in previous games in which Moore has featured. The other players just aren't anticipating Moore's knockdowns. Until they can start doing this and playing off him, Moore, and our entire style of play, will be ineffective and we will fail to score goals. This lack of goals is becoming a serious issue now, with just 1 in our last 5 games, and I believe that one of the main factors that has caused this drought is our inability to read Moore's knockdowns and get on the end of them. It's essentially undermining our whole style of play because it seems as though the entire system is based upon playing around the big target man in Moore. If this doesn't materialise, we have no Plan B, and this was highly evident today. Aside from all that, I don't think Kieffer is going to score goals for us at this level. This shouldn't really come as a surprise given his record with regards to goalscoring in the Championship, but he just doesn't get into good positions frequently enough. A decent display from him, but a performance which was sadly unsupported by his colleagues; he could be a real asset to us if the team can play in conjunction with him, but that just isn't happening at the moment, and it's severely limiting our capability to score goals.
£3-4 million is a lot to pay for a striker that doesn't score goals. If we'd broken our transfer record for such a player we wouldn't be too happy. He does bring more to a team than goals, but still ...
The difficulty with reading KM’s knockdowns could be because a lot of the time, I’m not sure even KM knows where the ball is going to go.
Failure to anticipate KM’s knock-downs? Shouldn’t he be under some expectation to knock ‘em down into areas where his teammates are, or might expect them?
David Marshall really kept them in game. So it was typical the Wigan goalkeeping coach is Nick Colgan.
