Yesterday round me (i was sat half way) anyways there were a few guys in front stood up as soon as game kicked off. And someone behind us asked them to either sit down or move to back where others were stood. The blokes in front told them behind us to f**k off and if they couldnt see then to move closer to front. It caused a argument for a few minutes till they finally decided to sit down. Its a shame our fans arguing amongst themselves but i had to agree with those behind me. If they did wanna stand why not go to back wi rest of them instead of spoiling it and causing a Argument.
Inconsiderate bell-ends and to be fair the stewards should not need to deal with dickheads like these at games. Firstly you don't stand up throughout the game and if you do and you are asked to sit down by people then you do the decent thing and sit down. It's really not difficult not to be a tw** at football matches.
In all the years that I have been going to football I can honestly say I have only seen stewards acting like 'dicks' without provocation a handful of times; the police even less. They may be a little overzealous at times but in my experience this is a reaction to the way fans are behaving. The only collective 'dicks' at football are fans. I've also been to Cricket matches and Rugby matches and the experience there is very different. The reason, in my opinion, is that in general fans behave, show others respect and dont cause problems at every opportunity like the minority of fans do at football.
Happens all the time at away games. I prefer to stand but will sit if others are around me do. As you say I often move to the back so I can stand. (Also on back row of ponty so I can stand)
We were in a 5000 stand that wasn't even a third full and allowed people to sit where they wanted. There was no reason for any views to be blocked. If you want to stand go to the back. Nearer the front tends to be people who aren't wanting to stand or can't for long period or kids who don't want their views blocked.
So basically, people are.....? ;-) Its very much prevalent in modern society. I'll do what I want, when I want and anyone who challenges that are wrong.
I've seen the Hillsborough documentary. I've seen Barnsley fans baton charged at Bramhall Lane for celebrating a goal, less than a year later by the same police force. I've seen entirely innocent fans punched, kicked, hit with truncheons and even spat on by police officers. Don't get me wrong, I've seen Barnsley fans act like dicks on plenty of occasions, but I've never seen them assault a police officer. I've seen the opposite on numerous occasions.
I do believe when getting tickets from booking office. You can request your preference front or back. We like to sit and ask for near to front/middle. Had less bother since asking. But still on occasion a few dickheads will be on front rows and stand up and refuse to sit. Morons. At Wigan thankfully (cos I got my/our tickets as soon as on sale. Ended up with row V ) stewards said sit anywhere. So found a nice spot out of the way. Loads of room.
