Nothing more than expected. The ones we lost would give us experience. On today's evidence, hopefully the Moore hysteria will subside. The one I think could have helped us was Ethan, but even he has been dropped and they kep a clean sheet! Seriously think anyone who thought keeping the gang of 4 would keep us up was delusional. Not saying what we have will. We should have replaced with at least 3 experienced players along with the newbie young uns.
Can't disagree with you more. Having said that I'm surprised Stoke bought Lindsay. Their aspirations are promotion. I don't see Lindsay as having the quality for that. Keeping a team in the division yes, getting them out via promotion, no.
4 players which couldn't keep us up two seasons ago. Agree with your expected retort, best defence in L1 last season and our joint top scorer. L1 though, massive difference as we are seeing again in the championship. Individual and team mistakes are severely punished. We can't be that bad though. Beat Fulham. Drew with 2nd placed Charlton who haven't lost a game yet. Silly versus Wednesday and Brum And Luton just shocking overall performance. Two weeks off now. Hopefully get browny back and a few more. Plenty of time to work with players. I know we will probably never agree with my departure thoughts, but today feels much better.
I think if we'd kept the promotion team together* and brought in the players we have (maybe not so many wingers, but the with the addition of a left back and a central midfield player who can tackle) relegation wouldn't have been a worry at any point in the season. *Davies was out of contract so nothing we could do there.
This. Doesn’t matter how people rate those ex players individually. Collectively they were outstanding last season, particularly defensively. Moreover, the vast majority showed real improvement over the season it was a proper TEAM. IMO we’ve done pretty spectacular business to: move up a Division, start the season with a lesser team, then once the season has actually started, weaken it some more. Crackers.
What you’ve got to remember with these lads is their last stint in the championship. All barring Lindsay in a few games were woeful. The best game I saw Lindsay in if I recall was wolves at home. Everyone including theme-selves are believing the hype of last season but that was in league 1. You don’t get punished for mistakes as much and there were plenty (think Plymouth at home) I won’t say pinnock and Lindsay won’t go on and have good careers but i can’t help but smile when I see that they’re struggling to cope with the level of championship football so far, especially after they engineered the move and as for Moore. No goals so far, let’s see if you eat your words about “out growing us”
Thing is both Moore and Lowe are from league 1.If Wigan were really pushing for promotion then maybe they should have gone for the much quoted experience.
Agreed - consciously dismantling a team we built was reckless and inexcusable; I actually think the case is inarguable.
Whether Lindsay or Pinnock go on to become top end Championship players or even higher I have no idea. What I do know is that it's ridiculous, with players of such a young age, to point back to their previous stint in the Championship when they were thrown in at the deep end, and suggest that they haven't improved since. To do so would also suggest that Stendel and the coaching staff, past and present, have failed in their primary task of coaching them.
These happy clapping club men who think we wouldnt be a better team with the 4 missing players are just delusional... same people who applauded PC when he sold all our best players season after season then doff thier caps to him and thank him for still having a club. Jokers!!!
I know right! Cos slipping into administration and losing the club is the goal we all aspire to. Happy clappers eh? Morons, the lot of em.
