I see they are now considering legal action against the football league. I do sympathise with their fans but the situation could have not have been allowed to develop any further. They were given numerous extensions to try and find a solution. IMO the football league were right to call it a day when they did. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/sport/amp/football/49526433
You have to sympathise with the fans however how much more time do they need. Is this 4 weeks into the season. You have to draw the line somewhere ffs
People would clap if their arses were on fire now. Sometimes at matches I don't know what we're clapping for next. Half of time I just stand up and clap along too. Right set of happy clappers
Clap for anything these days. Uncle Kev’s Guinea Pig died aged 3 - everyone claps on 3mins........ I won’t be clapping for Bury. Sad, but it was obvious to all years ago what was going to happen. They denied another L2 being promoted too. Nobody clapped for us when we were in admin - nor did I want them to either.....
You wanted your football club to survive though? And we did get sympathy and assistance from other clubs if I remember correctly?
I did. And I sympathise with Bury fans - but what did they expect. Years ago signing players they clearly couldn’t afford. We all said on here. Anyway, my main point I guess, is that I’m fed up of clapping for random stuff. I don’t do it anymore unless it’s for a young child or an ex player/member of staff.
There was a lot made of the 7 million being in place, but I'm not sure how sustainable that made them or if it was just like sticking a band aid over a bloody big gash? Really got to feel for them though
This may come across as harsh because I'll never forget that season where Flicker kept us up but he should be ashamed for his role in how this started too. Demanding trips away to St Georges and other places for a chuffing L2 side, no expense spared and he still couldn't get them out of that League at the first attempt. I think they did get promoted second time round though. He must have known the ridiculous wages (Some on £5k plus at L2 level) and contract lengths they were agreeing to on low crowds. Yes, Stewart Day and Steve Dale should be held accountable as they sanctioned the moves but Flicker and his 'special human beings' were the start of it.
The debt structure and costs were basically that bad that it made no sense to buy the club unless you wanted to lose a load of money you’d never get back. It needed a very rich die-hard Bury fan to buy it. To anyone else, it made no sense.
Wouldn’t dream of clapping. They don’t clap clubs like forest green who run their finances properly, instead they just take their promotion spot. No sympathy from me.
I'm not clapping them for spending money they didn't have, and denying another club promotion with their cheating. It had been coming.
What's the significance of 27 minutes? Is it a minute for every million they have overspent in the past decade or so? I will stick to applauding at the last home game of the season for all the reds we have lost during the season. Clapping a football club that tried to cheat their way up the leagues is silly. I think clubs should applaud us then for being run properly in the black.
I would imagine the Neville family aren't very popular either. Gary and Phil are in a position where they couldn't get involved, but I can't see that being appreciated by some.
If managers are offered the funds they will spend them, you get the sack otherwise, ask Andy Ritchie.
I agree we clap for almost anything nowadays, yet its the fans that I would clap for, those that dont have a say over how their club is run. Cos I aint got a say in the financial dealings of our club.
A number of years ago I got quite upset with the club for their decision not to pay respects to Steve Cooper at the home game following his death. I thought it was a special case with him dying so young. The club did put out a press release describing their sorrow and that their thoughts were with his family, and that they would be honoring him and all others others with a Barnsley connection who had died that year at the last game of the season. I didn't think that was enough. If I dwell on it, I can still get upset about Steve's death. An amazing athlete who was 8 years younger than I am now when he died. Hard as bloody nails which is what probably what killed him as he shook off a fractured skull rather than go to hospital. But I was wrong and the club were right. I no longer know what people are clapping for at matches. It's not a show of respect when it's lost all meaning and that happened a long time ago. A couple of minutes set aside at the final game of the season for us all to contemplate those we've lost, family members and ex-players is a real sign of respect. A family member of my close friends died last year. A staunch Barnsley fan. He died way too young. His life and death shaped the year for all of us and continues to do so. His name was one of those on the scoreboard as we paid our respects. For once I was in the ground before kick off to make sure I was there. I thought it a very fitting tribute. The town of Bury will form another football club. They'll call it Bury. There's a good chance they'll buy Gigg Lane or build a much better ground. They will be debt free. They will be run by the fans. They will experience far, far more success in the next 20 years than they have in the previous. There is nothing to mourn. Stop clapping.
Isnt it a bit like observing silence. As in it's no skin of my nose to join in and it will.mean something to some people? I would never not clap unless it was someone and their family I had zero respect for.
It just loses the respect/meaning/symbolism. Majority of the time folk have no clue who and why that minute they are clapping for. A proper tribute at the final home game with names on scoreboard and programme is far more meaningful and poignant. Clapping for the death of a 5 year old kid and then for a business who went bust cos they spent money they didn’t have should never be mixed up in my eyes. That’s the dilution it causes.....
