And I'm not sure why everyone is slating Mcgeehan for the first goal. For me Andersen is at least as culpable for us losing possession, and there is then a further spell of general bad defending before they score.

I thought it was Anderson who messed up, my daughter and me both screamed at him from our living room. Given the noise on here I assumed I'd (we'd) got it wrong. No replays on Sky red button, too tight to pay a tenner.

Terrible error from Andersen, but McGeehan gave the ball away the whole match.

Sibbick easily beaten at the back post for the goal, so more ammunition for the scapegoat squad.

The midfield is starting to show why it wasn’t deemed good enough last time we were in the championship. Defence looks a shambles, but that’s hardly surprising given the changes in personnel. Attack was toothless without Woodrow. I miss Kieffer.

There were multiple issues after McGeehan passed that ball. But when you give the ball away unexpectedly, the rest of the defence isn't set so you've got issues. That's why the high press is so effective if you can win it swiftly.

McGeehan played lots of poor passes last night. Sat extremely deep and underhit, overhit, bobbled, misdirected passes all night. In contrast, Mowatt weighted and directed passes much much better.

And as has been pointed out, its the 3rd goal McGeehan has been involved in us conceding from a poor pass. He's nowhere near as good with the ball as any of our other midfielders. Pity as I quite like the lad, but he's got a massive improvement ahead of him if he wants to be a first team regular once Dougall is fit again.

Me too. Would walk into that team and make a real difference/goal threat. Worst decision club had made in along time selling him!!!

It was a succession of issues that is for sure but him losing the ball in such a dangerous place set off the whole thing. He doesn’t do that, they don’t score.

Could Andersen do better? Yeah. Could we do more to stop the cross? Yeah. Should Sibbick do better back stick? Of course.

My concern though is it is the third goal conceded originating in the same type of error from the same player.

Nobody seems to have mentioned Andersen and Diaby ballwatching and stood in the same place as the cross is floated over. Really should be a centre half taking the centre forward, not leaving it to the full back. But that was the issue of losing it where we did, everyone is out of defensive position so more risks rather than having a solid shape with everyone doing the jobs they are being tasked with.

McGeehan needs to play further up the field like he did for Luton. He's never been a defensive midfielder, he hasn't got the ability to pick the ball up deep and move forward .

Agree with this. I think he looks more dangerous in and around the opponent box, but then that seems to be competing with Bahre and Chaplin or Schmidt, or maybe even Wilks now and then.

Not pulling up any trees at Wigan. Great for us last season bu maybe another league 1 player? Looking at the stats for Wigan, he lost the ball more than any other Wigan player, 41% pass completion and yet to hit the back of the net for them. Early days, but defenders in the championship are so far ahead of league 1. He will be lucky to get 7 goals this season IMO.

Having said that, we still probably need to bring someone in to strengthen up top in the Jan window. Certainly not panicking at the moment.

That's the problem in a nutshell, we are so short of 'middle of the park' or 'defensive' midfielders and overloaded with No'10's, it's a totally imbalanced squad.

Could be worse of course.... we've still only got half the number of 10's we had under PH and Morais!

We put some decent crosses in last night and some good balls from corners but no one to get on the end of them. Only hope from corners are anderson or diaby. Kieffer was always good at getting on the end of a corner or a decent ball in and genrally making a nuisance of himself but it was a easy nights work for the brum defenders.

McGeehan had no need to make that suicidal pass. It completely wrongfooted everyone including Andersen who then gave it away. If anybody deserves blame then it is McGeehan. He should have seen the opposition closing in before passing. He should be playing further upfield
